SCHOOL OF NURSING ADVISORY COMMITTEE N -ss B , an ., as N A new N w xx Around Table fLeft to Rightj-Dorothy Snyder, Michael S ivulich, M .D., M ovene Ponas, Mildred N oon,' S ara Jane Torquato, Edwin Perun, George U mbacli, Helen Kolonich, Alice Sheridan, Annette H inks, John N. Crichton, Avis Reither. JR. AUXILIARY STUDENT NURSE LOAN FUND In November 1946, a gift of 325 was received by the Junior Auxiliary of C onemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital in memory of Dr. Robert C. Davis. At that time it was suggested that this mtoney become the nucleus of a Memorial Fund to which auxiliary members could contribute in memory of a loved person who had died, or as an annual tribute to a dear one's memory. Gradually, news of the fund spread and people outside the auxiliary began to contribute. In November 1949, there was 8862.77 in the Memorial Fund. The question arose as to what would be a fitting tribute to the collective memory of so many people. The suggestion was accepted that interest free loans to study nursing at Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital be given to students who would otherwise be unable to finance their studies in the School of Nursing. A loan is to be repaid beginning six months after graduation, at the rate of 350 per quarter until paid in full. It may be paid more quickly at the discretion of the borrower. All money repaid on loans goes back into the Student Nurse Loan Fund to further the education of other student nurses who may seek financial assistance. The Student Loan Fund Committee is composed of members of the Iunior Auxiliary of Memorial Hospital. The Fund constitutes a truly living and far reaching tribute to those whom it is intended to memorialiee.

All graduates of C onemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing are eligible for memlbership in the Alumni Association and should feel a profes- sional respansibility to join. Each year honorary membership is awarded to the graduating seniors as an introduction to the Association. The purpose of the Alumni is to maintain an active interest in and to sup- port the school of .nursing. Throughout the years the Association has had fund raising projects to help refurnish the nurses residence. In addition, the members contributed generously to the Nursing Education Building which was dedicated in August 1969. This building is used by the graduate nurses as well as by the nursing students. The first class was graduated from C V M H in 1898 and the first meeting of the Alumni was held in 1907. Meetings are held the third Monday of every other month, September 'through May. By vote of the membership, a Homecoming Dinner-Dance is held every five years whereby old friendships are renewed. The next homecoming will be in 1976.
