Yes, there were many adiustments to make and there was much to learn in our freshman year which began September 7, 1964. Awe-struck and fear-inspired, we settled down to a life of both mental and physical exertion. Our courses included classes at Johnstown College, University of Pittsburgh, and each week we walked to and fro, from residence to college and back again. Here at the hospital we were combining theory with actual clinical experience and every week we thrilled to new learning experiences. Even with this busy schedule we found time to develop our salesmanship abilities. Under the guid- ance of Patricia Rummel, class president, and with the help of our advisor, Mrs. Slater, we successfully completed several money-raising proiects for both our class and the Student Organization. All of these experiences combined to make us feel that gradually we were becoming a part of this vast community of CVMH. Now we are iuniors and have begun our specialties. Once again we are greenhorns and as each day passes we are gaining valuable information about these different aspects of nursing. In diet therapy we acquire a better understanding of the nutritional needs of our patients. The excitement of the operating room, the wonder of childbirth and the ioy of pediatric nursing are within our reach. Before us lies our three month affiliation at Torrance State Hospital, which we anticipate eagerly. The six month stretch of our senior year glows brightly in our imagination. We only hope that these future months will prove as rewarding in every way as have the ones we have left behind us. i7 1
