ST HE T IIIQIUNIIIL In the realm of time, many changes have occurred in schools of nursing, including the growth of participation of nurse students in student organizations. Local, state, national, and international student nurse organizations have developed with the school organization being the basic unit of structure. . Each student becomes a member of the student organization when she enters CVMH School of Nursing, and her participation in the organization is vital to its existence. The student council membership is comprised of the officers and representatives-at-large selected by the three classes. The student organization elects its officers, and they function as the officers for student council, which is the governing body of our school. Each student in our school automatically becomes a member of the local, state, and na- tional student nurse associations. We belong to Area 5, which comprises a nine-county area and includes seven schools of nursing. Through participation in activities of the local area, we ac- tively participate in the activities of the Student Nurse Association of Pennsylvania lSNAPl, which has the largest representation to the National Student Nurses Association lNSNAl and is a very active unit. Participation in the organization gives us a better understanding of what nursing really is. It gives us an appreciation and the experience of cooperatively 'functioning in an organized group and helps us establish an awareness of the responsibility for belonging to profession or- ganizations following graduation. lt, also, provides us an opportunity to meet many wonderful people from all walks of life, which helps us grow as individuals and citizens. 48
