We began our nursing career on September 2, 1952 and were initiated at an intermediate-spom sored party on September 3. Our class officers were elected in October with Mrs. Ponas being chosen advisor. The main event of our first year was the arrival of seventeen students from Miner's Hos- pital, Spangler, Pennsylvania. On March 19, 1953, we were capped at the Vine Street First Evangel- ical United Brethren Church. Our first group of students left for affiliation with Torrance and Butler Hospitals in December of that year. And now that we are about to be seniors, we shall endeavor to make our coming year as profitable as the past two have been. WM-K.. A very .nervous group of girls arrived at the nurses' home on September 8, 1953, ready to start our new career. That evening we had a party in the lounge which included games, re- freshments and an initiation. For the next few months, we were busy with classes at Pitt and at our home school. We also selected Miss Cerutti as our advisor. Christmas arrived . . . and another party. We enjoyed singing carols on all the areas throughout the hospital. ln January, classes ended at Pitt and our first report cards were sent home. Our spring activities included a skating party, square dance and the May dance. May the next two years prove to be as ex- citing as the first, with many new experiences before us. dffaajhnm Three years ago, we were classed as fright- ened probies. On the fourth of September we took our first steps toward our goal of becoming nurses. First on the agenda was to organize our class. The above officers and our advisor, Miss Matig, were chosen. Soon our days were occupied by attending classes at .lunior Pitt. As January drew to an end, we bade thetm farewell and settled down to the hospital routine. The awaited day, March eleventh, finally ar- rived. No more black bows . . . we were ready to be capped! Summer offered vacations to all and we also gained experience on 'the floor. September arrived again and now we were known as intermediates. Classes resumed, but Senior Ifilas Meyers, presidentp H. Kalmanir, taken-T. Gramling, secretary. 'Mmm ,711 were fewer in number. Many activities began to get under way, such as dances, a sample fair, skating parties, and bake sales. The purpose of all these was to raise money for the all-important Junior-Senior Dinner-Dance. By the end of February our classes were com- pleted and our group was separated. Some head- ed for Butler for tuberculosis affiliation and others to Torrance for psychiatric experience. June holds many fond memories of the Junior- Senior Dinner-Dance at the Sunnehanna Country Club. A queen was chosen from the class of '53 and the event proved successful. And now we are seniors. Graduation holds opportunities for all. We are ready to accept the challenge offered . . . better nursing care to all. OFFICERS Left to right - M. DeForte, vice-pres: dentp R.
