Everyone loves to eat! Ulm, Urgolz and U ' ' DIETARY DEPARTMENT From time immemorable the human body, whether at rest or in action, in sickness or in health, has required tood! With the discovery ol vitamins, there was a greater evidence that meals must have the essential food requirements along with tasting good. ln our hospital the dietary department, headed by Miss Ann Waters, is responsible tor the preparation and service of all food. Tempting and nutritious meals are planned tor the patients and the employees oi the hospital. Qualitative and quantitative diets are prepared in the special diet kitchen. In this sec- tion We see the student nurses, under immediate supervision, Weighing, selecting, measuring, and cooking articles ot food, We see them setting up, decorating, and carrying trays to patients, and We see them instructing patients regarding food habits. From pots and pans, the rattling dishes among, falls the melody of buzzing activitiy. We can hear, now, the click of a cup against a saucer: then the hum trom the mixers and mashers. Still, above all these sounds, We can hear the clarion call ot the supervisors, Get it to the pa- tient HOT!

gnta flu: lw ' wnldd run 40 HOSPITAL DUTY When we gaze into the hospital wards, we see C. V. M. H. student nurses adventuring in a busy, bustling world: Ioking with each other when they come on duty, starched, and fresh, and beautiful at 7:00 A. M. Listening to the head nurse reporting in detail the acutely ill patients, their conditions and reactions. Taking temperatures and thriving under the admiration of the visitors, hearing, that same old witticism, OH, here's my smoke! , repeated now and again as they place thermometers into the patients' mouths. Smiling at the soft whistles ot the other male patients when they litt their patient's wrist for pulse counting. Making rounds with the doctors, departing from the group with a tremendous respect for the knowledge and skill of the physicians. Carrying out specific orders: nasal oxygen p. r. n., S. R. Penicillin 400,000 U., catheteri- zation stat., gratefully depending on the teamwork of hands and minds from the orderlies, pharmacy, storeroom, central linen room, cystoscopy, and sewing room. Deriving satisfaction from their own restraint when they tind the wards at 10:00 P. M. heedlessly awake as usual, and wanting everything trom hot cocoa to hot soup, not to mention a hot water bottle and a bedpan. Yes, the student nurses are right at home in this adult world ot living, dying humanity due to their excellent foundation in their basic program. Left to right- Betty Karnes, Marion Lambert, Sarah Weller, Betty Yeager, Patsy Burke, Mary I. Walker, Mrs. Marian Geisel and Dorothy Stahr
