SEPTEMBER 5, 1949. SEPTEMBER 6, 1949. SEPTEMBER-MARCH. MARCH 21, 1950. MAY 16, 1950. SEPTEMBER 10, 1950. 6012 nun A wmthq qoab Labor Day marked the beginning of our three year training course for the 1952 class at C. V. M. H. Excitement, joy and fear filled the heart of each girl as we entered the threshold of our chosen profession. Our orientation began, both formally, and informally. We were shown each department of the hospital, given our schedule for the months to come, and invited to the traditional initiation party sponsored by the Iunior Class. It was in the form of a Weiner-marshmallow roast on the lawn of the nurses home. We met our big sisters and were initiated royally. These six months Were our pre-clinical period. We spent our days studying, learning and applying our knowledge at the Iohnstown Center of the Uni- versity of Pittsburgh and at the hospital classroom. Study hours were from 7:30 to 9:00 o'-clock Monday through Thursday, during which we prepared for the next day's classes. Our free hour, from 9-l0, was usually spent at Long's Confectionery, sipping a coke and eating an 'ieverything on hot dog. At last the day of reward came. Our capping service was held at Christ Evangelical United Brethren Church. With the Florence Nightingale Pledge swelling our hearts, we emerged as Freshmen, feeling capable and sure of our profession. A reception followed our capping at the nurses' home Where our parents met the faculty members. Spring Wanderlust helped plan this hike to Stackhouse Park. We built a dam and played baseball. Songs, games, and of course food, made lor a won- derful evening. This time, as juniors, we planned the intiation of the pre-clinicals. We held a lawn party with a Weiner roast and supervised the games the underclass- men performed. The Halloween dance was the first social event sponsored for the hospital. Ii was a round and square dance held at Berkley Hills Fire Hall. Cider, gingerbread and blue jeans dominated the picture. We had a class meeting to elect officers. Betty Yeager was elected as our president, janet Schmidt as vice president, Mary Livingston as secretary, Delores Young as treasurer and Betty Ott as recording secretary. The Valentine Dance Was also held at Berkley Hill. It was an informal affair- but more formal than blue jeans. We held bake sales every other week at the nurses' home. The public was invited. Pies, cakes, cookies and fudge offered tempting displays. New experiences, more knowledge and lots more fun will fill the re- maining year at our school and when we have obtained our goal, we will take our stand beside the many who serve to the best of their ability.
