Misses Hella Lowry cmd lane Smouse ADMITTING DEPARTMENT Our admitting department is the patient's first direct contact with the hospital. This heart of the hospital has to do With the professional care of patients. Its chief function is the admis- sion of patients, but with this duty has been added the routing of patients, the keeping of records of discharges and deaths, the managing of transfers, the scheduling of operations, and the giv- ing of information as to the condition of patients. The admitting department creates a pleasant impression and observes at all times the atmosphere of professional secrecy. Our personnel in the admitting department possess professional attitudes, have infinite patience and pleasant manners, and maintain business-like tact when obtaining essential in- formation from patients, relatives, or friends.

Without the knowledge of the X-ray, the fluoroscopic screen, and radium, progress in the field of internal medicine would end. A stellate or comminute fracture in a bone would not be located Without the vivid, precise picture of x-ray. A View of the body's internal organs in activity Would not be possible Without the fluoroscopic screen. Certain malignant tu- mors would not be detected or treated Without these discov- eries of man. If We take one glance at our department of radiology, we Will realize that this oasis of health offers modern facilities for diagnostic Work, and opens opportunities for roentgen and ra- dium therapy. The knowledge received from the great scientists, Dr. Roent- gen and Madame Curie, has a definite application in the field of radiology at our hospital.
