All, here we are. Greenies! This we were called by our upperclassmen as we eagerly elected officers and planned a trip to Hershey. Sophisticated Sophomores we were called when we came back the next fall. We sold initials, taffy, magazines, and sponsored some skating parties to increase our treasury. An- other trip to Hershey climaxed the year. The Enthusiastic Juniors held bake sales and dances, sold chances and peanuts, and produced The Showboat Minstrel. our Jun- ior Production. These projects enabled us to finance the annual Junior-Senior Prom. At last we reached our goal. Seniors! ' e elected class leaders, sold cand)-, candles, and sponsored man - other activities to pay for our yearbook. Becoming seniors filled us vith pride. Underclassmen respected us, and teachers treated us as responsible adults. As we close your portals, dear Cone- maugh, we will make you proud of our 1961 graduates. Immediately afterwards, we started fund raising projects such as selling magazines, chances, peanuts, Christmas tape kits, and Christmas trees. We also earned the needed funds by ha ing bake -;ales, dances, and the assessment of dues. The school doors were once more flung open, and students strutted down the halls to their newly assigned rooms with an air of anticipa- tion. The 1960-61 school ' ear had just begun! We were far more e.xcited this first day than e er before because q had made the grade. We were freshmen! This year got off to a fine start. We met all our old friends and were soon briefed on all the back news. We became acquainted with new teachers and were quickly started on new subjects in new rooms with new books. Then came the big election of 1960. O ut of 53 students in the freshmen class we were to select four class officers and si.x representa- tixes. The candidates were busy politiking. Music is one of the basic activities of our school hfe. It helps to de eIop talents, and teaches the students to work together, gaining leadership and knowledge. One of the important organizations of the music department is the Girls ' Chorus. The chorus is open to all senior high school girls who are interested. The girls spent many long hours during activities periods and after school practicing both their new and old song arrangements. At Christmas time the girls sang for the Christmas Assembly which everyone enjo ed immensely. One of the other organizations of the music department is the marching band. Although the band of Conemaugh was unfortunate at the begiiming of the year not to ha e a director, they were able to secure the assistance of Mr. Signarino as temporary director. B - hard work and ingeiniit) ' on the part of all members, the managed to win third place in the Johnstown Halloween Parade. Activities throughout the year included the sale of Christmas cards, and Le Bal De Noel among arious other acti ities. The band supported the team during the football season. So despite the setbacks at the beginning of the vear, the band came through with a prosperous and en jo able season that will not be forgotten easih . 45 SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL Row 1: Judy Siilem, Carole K a w c h a k , Judy Yasika, Geraldine Scott, Maureen O ' Cella.
