They did some unusual exercises and even though they played many raining nights they came through with flying colors. Mr. Bruno introduced a novelty in his band this year, lights in their hats instead of the usual plumes. They received many compliments on the idea. The profitable end comes with the parades.. The band received twenty dollars as first prize in the Halloween Parade, and seventy- five dollars as first prize in the Christmas Parade. Each member was dressed as Minnie Mouse. Scheduled next was Windber, fuel for its long journey through nine opponents by Mr. Gjurich and his assistant, Mr. Fesl-zo. This was a diesel powered streamlined machine that rolled into Huntingdon on September TO at Wind- ber to be derailed and suffer minor damage, The Bearcats pinned a 12-6 defeat on the lron Horses. During the following two weeks th-e engine received major repairs and headed for Boswell where the first victory, 26-O, was picked up by the Locomotives. The next stop was that always-tough Adams Twp. Waiting at the sta- tion was an T8-7 triumph. Upon entering Fern- dale the following week th elron Steeds ran into some difficulties and was almost stalled. However, a T3-7 win was pulled out of the fire at the last minute. The train then traveled Kneeling: Milan Gjurich, Jr., mascot famous for its Ramblers who wreck the opponents whom they meet. Although many people doubted it could be done, the Locomotive gained a popu- lar, estimable. and decisive 26 to O win. The train with the cars full of victories was really shining now! Not slowing up a bit a 40-O vic- tory wos registered at Portage. At Punxsutaw- ney another was added to the growing list- this cne by 38-21. The final leg of journey was Richland Twp. Those Rams were no match for our Powerhouse, who scored a 26-6 win for the eighth consecutive. The Locomotive then pulled the eight cars, each filled with a victory, into the record book where the T949 Conemaugh Foot- ball Locomotive will remain to be remembered as one of the best in the history of our school. first Row: Kenneth Johnson, Thomas Woolf, Gearqr Slrivirh. lohn Mirkens, Donald 'urtnan Blaine Warner Richard Hendrick, Nirk Mandrick, Joe Yalvipski, Jesse Gordon, Charles Ytngling Tom Yewric. They won hall of their games, but they were always playing their best. One must remember that a iunior high player is first to be introduced to the game, then he must be taught to play correctly and try to im- prove his errors, and finally improve himself to such an extreme that when he becomes a sopho- more he is ready for the junior varsity. Realizing this difficult task, we congratulate Mr. DiMauro upon his fine achievement with the team. Also, we hope in the future he will have developed the star players of our varsity. JUNIOR VARSITY BASKETBALL The purpose of the Junior Varsity is to train the boys for future varsity play Mr. Fesko was their coach this year and the boys came through with fourteen wins and ten losses. They again entered the South Fork Tourna- ment play, but lost to Westmont in their first game. fl' 9 GQ' ,A gr: THE SEHSUITS RECORD evwctq '7naZc'acda4l Sammy Tom Yewccc Ed Waltgora John Mlckens George Slovnch Joe Mutch George Stanovtch Charles Ynnglnng George Charles Make Palso Jesse Gordon Robert Fssher T9 'J 3 Our hugh scorer thas year was Thomas Yewcc wnth 455 pomts durmg the regular season Thus scormg tnclude the elamnnatnon and tl'e St Froncns Tourney Thoma Yewctc ranked hrt tn the greate Johnstown ba ketbcull CIBC 1 . - ' 5 ' 3,6 ' , 'IST ' T35 65 ' , , , , 43 ' ' , 38 . , 26 ' 24 8 Total wwwlwdwtly coma! The Varsity C sponsors both the bays and girls intramurals. For the champions of these, they provide awards. They also take care of Junior High games. Ofticial scorekeeoer at thebasketball games is Mr. Bruno. Mr. Ribblet is time keeoer at the cage contests. Girls gym teacher and intra-mural in- structor is Mrs. Lentz. BHSEBHH The Conemaugh High School baseball team, under the reins of Mr. Feslro for the first time, completed another season in the Tri-County League. Delay in the selection of a ccach and bad weather prevented the squad from getting much time to practice and get in condition for the campaign. As in the past years, the boys had to use a diamond outside of Conemaugh for their training and home games. Many lettermen and a few rookies make up the team which lacked pitching strength. The opponents were Adams Twp., Richland Twp., Windber, and Conemaugh Twp. Just as is true for all Iron Horse teams the 1950 baseball squad was full of spirit and never stopped trying, no matter what thc odds were against them.
