In the first meeting, which was held in September, it was decided that the meetings should take place on the first Wednesday of every month, There are twenty-four members in the club and also Miss Treece, who is our sponsor. A'short business meeting is always conducted, lasting about ten minutes. The rest of the period is spent in a program which a committee has planned who hao been previously assigned to the task. The committee was composed of two members from the club. They assigned a couple of members stories and then they got up and told or read them. The stories were Greek Myths, The whole club participated in a game, either football or spelling contest which was on the same order. One member at the committee gave the English meaning and the other member gave the Latin word. The club was divided into two groups and it one side missed then the other side got a turn. Miss Treece showed pictures-slides concerning the Roman days and customs if the committee requested it. The club has purchased pins. We held these meetings in hope that everyone would get something from them. All of their activities have been successful. They held a Sadie Hawkins Day Party on November l7, i948 at the Y. W. C. A. in Johnstown. There was a very large crowd. They also held a Valentine's Day Dance at the COf1emClUQl'l Fife Hall. Both the Senior Y-Teens and the Key Club Sold refreshments at our basketball games. The annual conference of local and near-by C0mfTiUf1lTY Y-TeefiS Gnd l'll-Y WGS held On The 26th ot February, 1949, The event took place gt the Trinity E. U. B. Church, corner of Willow and Somerset Streets. The conference began at one o'clock in the afternoon. It started with registration, group discussions, lectures, and assembly meetings followed. The afternoon was highlighted by a won- derful talk, given by Reverend Slep. His topic was, What Are You Doing With My World Reverend Slep, originally from Greensburg, impressed all who heard him. He spoke of the im- portance of a clean mind and mutual understanding of all the countries with the United States. A banquet was held and group singing ended the affair. The Senior Y-Teens were represented by Dorothy Koreltz, Virginia Brezovec, and Dolores Krupa. The senior members of the Y-Teens received sweaters as a reward for their hard work, faithful service, and undivided efforts in the club activities. The meetings of this organization were held every other Tuesday. The membership consisted of thirty-tive active girls. Under the supervision of Miss Renfrew, this club developed int oa well- lpn organized association for girls. enior L' ass P ay The senior class production, Babies' Night Out , was presented March 31 under the direction ot Miss Eleanor Krueger. This three-act comedy, written by Robert St. Clair, deals with the cur- rent Number One problem in the average American home-baby sitting. The play is centered around the complications which result one memorable evening when a young married couple, the Rangers, hire teen-age Patricia Manville to sit with their baby until they come home. Finding it' much too lonesome in the house, Peep ishort tor Patricia i calls all her friends on the phone to come over to listen to the Ranger's new radio record-player combination The tact that these other teen-agers all happen to be baby sitting-even the boys-daesn't deter them. Oh no-they came over and brought their babies with theml What happens from this point on should not happen to anyone's baby, or any baby sitter, or even ones mother-in-law After three solid acts of whirl-wind action and surprise twists, 'Babies' Night Out arrives at a happy ending, even the babies gurgled with delight. o 01' 0115103 On March 25, 1949, Conemaugh High School sent seven representatives to Southmont, to enter County contests of the Pennsylvania Music and Forensic League. Paul Sewak was certified directly to the State finals, as a result of no competition in his particular field. Semi-hnals took place April 8 at State Col- lege, Joanne Alberter received top-rating mak- ing her eligible, with Paul Sewak, to compete for a state title. These contests will be held at Pottstown on April 29 and 30. 0rchestra Our orchestra was composed of noe'-een members this year. It is steadily increosing and in the near futu'e will become a large o'gani- zation. Their work ,vas playing at the beginning and intermisslons between acts of the play, Practice was constantly their main objective. The chief need was for string instruments which is a major factor in orchestras of today. An orchestra can very readily find its place in school work, for it stimulates musical appeal. AT CONEMAUGH Guiding our eleven men on the gridiron this year were Mr. Gjurich and his assistant, Mr, Fesko. Both are not any strangers and have, through their illustrous careers, been students at Conemaugh High School. Mr. Glurich attended St. Francis College at Loretto, Pennsylvana, during the years ot T937 Through l94l. lvlr. Fesko commuted to Manhattan College in New York City and studied during the span of T939-l94l. Also, they played tor service teams during their periods in the armed forces. Two sessions a day of practice were held with hopes very low, after losing eleven lettermen. Seven ot those lost were regulars. Although completely outweighed in every game, the Steeds measured up to their true name and played their hearts out. Signifying this was the six won and three lost record. Such a record with a thought only rrediosre team points out the playing ability ot the football team which incidentally totalled tnirty-eight ambitious youngsters. An important item was the reschedule ot Westmont tor the hrst time in fourteen years. ln O very hotly contested game, we emerged as victors over our rivals by the score of seven to six. Two men were iniured but returned to play again before the season ended. Thomas Feist suttered a broken ankle and Paul Holub's knee was severely iniured. But Conemaugh, with only two substitutes and always the team in best condition, displayed to the dstrict tootball fans the strength of team spirf and its rewards. LooP PLAY Guiding our basketball team this year was in the department of Mr. Giurich and his assistant, Mr. Fesko. Eleven boys were accepted from thirty-eight candidates. Of these, Eve secured permanent berths on the first team for this year. The first team was composed of Thomas Yewcic and John Mickens, forwards, Michael Starchok, center, and Thomas Feist and George Slavich, guards. Average height of our first team was five feet and eleven inches. Conemaugh won the West Central League Title for the fourth consecutive time, Forty-eight consecutive games were won during the last four years in league play. Conemaugh also won the St. Francis Tournament by capturing three wins in this play. Thomas Feist and Thomas Yewcic were awarded first-string berths on the St. Francis Tournament All-Star Team. Although losing tive seniors this year, we will have six returning lettermen next year. Of twenty-nine games played, twenty-seven are recorded in the win column with two in the loss column. Losses to Catholic High in the regular schedule and West- mont in district six eliminations marr an almost perfect record.
