Her . . name was Madame Zo-anee. As we entered her dimly lighted Q? u Al I y studio, a sense of mystery en- R ' 1 Q gulfed us. ln a daze we seated .. ourselves on a comfortable sofa. The curtains at the opposite side of the room parted and an old woman dressed in a Gypsy cos- tume appeared. In a low voice ftlllftllllillllllllu she introduced herself as Ma- dame Zo-anee. After the proper formalities were over, Freda and I made known the purpose of our visit, which was to learn the fate of our T946 classmates. Madame Zo-anee bade us to sit at the table on which her crystal ball rested. Then she seated herself across from us and we gazed into the crystal ball. As the mist clears l see two nurses walking down a hospital corridor. I exclaim, Why that's Lois Peyton and Kathleen Lego. Madame Zo-anee told us they are working at the Bellevue Hospital in New York. The scene changes and we see a huge stage on which a line of chorus girls are dancing. Freda and I see Jean Briggs, Irene Podoletz, Dorothy Koss and Helen Salem among the girls. The feature male dancer is Cramer Riblett. The music for the dance is provided by William Berchin and his Hepcats, with Pete Fesovich and Margaret Rudge as featured vocalists. Carl Ceglar, who is also in the orchestra is the tuba player and the pianist is John Bitsko. Now we see a passenger plane fiying on its route to Paris. The pilot is Nick Baresky and Roy Brady is co-pilot. Mary Starchak and Elaine Placky are the stewardesses. On the same plane we see a happy couple, Ted Mateleska and Audrey Knep- per, who are on their honeymoon. We now see the political world. David Spanogle is the minister of propaganda and his assistants are Albert Gabrysh, Raymond Haupt and Pete Hart. Roy Kelly and Joe Trohanowsky are secret agents. Their secretaries are Cecilia Nowacki and Mary Jane Allison. Milan Jurich, Harry Dornheim and Don Rudge run the elevators in the building where these men have their offices. A brighter picture appears on the crystal ball. We see a beauty contest taking place. The local contestants are Lurlene Anthony, Mary Alice Candler, Betty Davis, Lorraine Snider, Olga Fetsik, Stella Lawerick, Betty Mateyko and Ruby Brumbaugh. The iudges are Frank Feist, Dean Gillen and Bob Griffith. Swimming in the near-by ocean are the well-known swimming champions. Mary Catherine Bittner, Jayne Gillen and 'Geraldine Hagerich. Serv- ing as life guards at the some beach are Andy Kozak, Charles Tumosky and Harold Lydic. Photo- graphers can be seen swarming the beach for pin-up girls. We recognize four of the photograph- ers as Frank Koval, George Kuzmiak, Roger Mackal and Paul Makuchan. They succeed in taking pic- tures of Melba Sheldon, Ann Packech, Julia Petriska and Twila Britton. Another scene comes into view. Freda and I gasp with wonder at the beautiful iungle scene. I56l 044477 Six hunters are approaching and as I gaze I notice the faces of Tom Panchisin, Steve Popp, Francis Parks, Robert Reese, Robert Rogers and Ells- worth Smith. Madame Zo-anee remarked, They are hunting for elephants and other jungle animals. Olga Papaila is in the vicinity painting a scene. She is now one of our well known artists. Next we see a street scene. Elva Hartill is going for a stroll with her favorite beau. We also see Erline Watts and Dorothy Jackson on their way to work. They are co-owners of a beauty salon. Dorothy Jones is their head operator. The picture changes and a roller skating rink comes into view. We see Mary Kemp, and Delores Gossard demonstrating their skill to a huge audience. Janet Craig, Marjorie Johnson and Jean Ann Hunt sell tickets at the box office. Irene Malenich is publicity agent for Mary and Dolores. Now the educational world comes into the pic- ture. At the University of Pittsburgh Catherine Markley, Shirley Marsh and Helen Makuchan are students of law. Irene Maruhnich is studying to become a doctor. Elizabeth Matson is gym instructor of the university. Working in a near-by cafeteria we see the familiar faces of Emma Pingatore, Olga Slobodzian and Margaret Stambaugh. Mary Poziak is the owner of the cafeteria and Billie Lou Riddell is the manager. The next scene is in Massachusetts. Irene Krisko is canoeing on o lake with a handsome young man. Mary Petriska, Margaret Pristas, and Emily Swete are lying on the beach. Madame Zo-anee spoke The next scene you see will be the last. A book appears on the crystal, The Eighth Cross writen by Eva Kovalchik and Freda Corey. After the excitement of being high school students wore off, the class settled down and elected their officers. The students chosen to get them off to a good start were, Curtis Hamel, President, Roy Kelly, Vice President, Betty Davis, Secretary, and Olga Fetsik, Treasurer. The main accomplish- ment in the first year was getting acquainted with the out-of-town students. After three months vacation the former freshmen returned to school. The officers for the sophomore year were: Glen Lewis, President, Clarence Ickes, Vice President, Betty Davis, Secretary and Jean Ann Hunt, Treasurer. In sophomore English the students wrote their autobiographies. As iuniors the pupils were coming nearer to their goal. The officers were, Bob Reese, President, Frank Feist, Vice President, Betty Davis, Secretary and Ted Mateleska, Treasurer. The iuniors were very busy with school activities. Dances and skating parties were held. The iuniors also sold magazine subscriptions. Their hard work was rewarded by a successful prom at the Masonic Temple. The students' ambitions to be seniors were finally achieved, and it was a ioyous return to school for them in the fall of 1945. The officers elected for the last year in high school were, Roy Kelly, President, John Bitsko, Vive President, Shirley Marsh, Secretary and Charles Tumosky, Treasurer. All during the school term, the seniors could be seen hustling along the halls and calling meetings con- cerning their class book and class rings. They ordered their namecards quite early and succeeded in creating a state of confusion in the school for weeks afterward. The seniors were happy to occupy the front seats in the auditorium. The annual trip to Ebensburg was the cause of much planning and excitement. The main event for the seniors was the class play. Huckleberry Finn by Samuel Clemens, The play was directed by Miss Martin. The students with dramatic ability were chosen for the casts. The play was a success and a fair profit was made. As graduation approaches the seniors look for- ward to it with mingled ioy and regret. They are now ready to face life by following their various careers. Their happy and profitable school days are almost ended. fi g .ff P I .fl vt't'rl : I '1' 'fit .is sw vlfr fig?
