They greduete es young men ene women who are refdy end eager to compete with mathematical end ecientifie thinking in the problems of the world of today. ' But four years ego the situation wee quite different. We did not know how to think ecientificellyg in fact, we scarcely knew how to think et all. There were twenty-four members in the cleeethengeaeh one of us feeling new and rather lost. The upper-clnesmen didn't do much to help usg both the Seniors and the Sophomoree had e chance to initiate ue--I might add that both oleeses made the most of their chance. But after initiation week wfe over, we began to feel quite at home. Mr. Schultz was our class advisor and Mae Boullion was our president. Many members of our class went our enthusiastically for athletics :nd mueic. ' Some oven studied. Vclois Bymfrs, Keith Taylor, Lila Herr, Jerry Thomas, and Edward Brown made the honor rolll During the course of the year we gained Lorraine Nelson, Alton app, and Reese Mathieug but Louie Tennis decifed to take e vaca- tion nnd wait another year before ftrrting high echool in earnest. The Freehmen with the help of the Sophomores entertain- ed the entire high school at e picnic out at , the second bridge. The mnjority of the Freshmen clfss attended the school picnic which wrs held et Lake Kempeskr. On September 4, 1959, twenty-four of us came beck to Conde High ee Sophomores, elthough Kenneth Rehm fnd Vnlole Bymere, for some unoxplrined reeeon, decided to enroll in Turton High, end Reese Mathieu etryed in Verdon High for his Sophomore yerr. Esther Brin joined us in the middle of the yerr.nnd Graco Gross was with us for n ehort time. We, with the help of the Freshies, gave a picnic for the high school, out at the second bridge. All of thoee who managed to walk that far had a good time and plenty to ret. Edward Brown wee elected presidfnt of our elves and Mies Grnboweki was our clree advisor. Again our clrce was well represented in music and athletice. In the middle of the year Opal Chandler mfrrifd and moved to Cnrpenter. Alton Rapp was gone from our midst for three months on account of a broken leg. We rleo lost Lorraine Neluon, who moved to Huron. That year-both the Student Council end the Pep Club were organized. Keith Taylor end Betty Lefthousc represent- ed our class in the Student Council. A majority of thegirls joined the Pep Club. This year it wee our turn to initiate the Freshies, but insteed of initieting them rs we had been initiated, we gevc them e perty. , This, our second ye:-r ,.n high school found egreet numb!! of our class studying harder--a few even get ell WA'sW. Those of us who made the honor roll were' ' Keith Tgylor, Edward Brown, Mae Boullion, Jeanne Chron, Esther Bain, Beverly Dobberpuhl, Jerry Thomas, end Lila Herr. 18 We had our annual school picnic at Lake Kempeska Amuse- ment Perk. About'slxty4five students and faculty attended, In September, 1940, when we stertee our Junior year, Reese Mathieu, Bill Herrnen, end Houston Clausen joined us. This year proved to be one of the busiest and most enjoyable in our high school life. Our first high-light wee the Pheasant Feed. It was held in October qt the nDormu. The pheesents were supplied by the Junior end Senior boys, who were excused for 9 half dey to get them. We gave two dances for the high school, both of them were very successful. We were runners-up in the inter-class beskctbrll tournament. Many of our class were members of the ethletle groups. A majority were ln ell music orgenizntions: bend, mixed chorus girls glee club, end boys glee club. , Richard Hildebrent end Beverly Dobberpuhl represented Conde High School in the typing contest held et Werner. Our Junior Gless Play NJune In Jenurryn was e smash hit and was presented before a record crowd. Jerry Themes end Edward Brown wfre our representatives to Boys State. Members of the Student Council from our elrse were Betty Lofthouse, Beverly Dobberpuhl, Keith Taylor and Edward Brown. Edward Brown, Jeenne Cheon, Mae Boullion, Beverly Dobberpuhl, Jerry Themes, Keith Teylor, end Lila Herr again made the honor roll. The end of the year found us busily engaged in prepar- ing for the Junior-Senior Banquet end the publication of the school annual. As usurl, we started out by teklng our time ant ended up in e rush. The banquet wee followed by the prom--the first prom in the history of Conde High School. Everyone who attended enjoyed himself. Our, super-duper annual was given out just four weeks efter we hed started worhlng on it. Record time and record annual!!! ' This, our lest yerr, we hope, in Conde High School, found us e class of twenty-one dignified Seniors. Houston Clausen and Lily Lehne ere no longer with us, but we grined Mildred Licnhard. During the middle of the yeer Bob Smith joined us but couldn't stand it end left after ebout six weeks. , . Keith Trylor beceme el ss prcsleent fnC Mr. Schultz our cless sponsor. Only six students get elfss rings. Our cless put on the first school dence this yerr. Being Seniors we were the ones who were entortr ned ent the Juniors hed to do all the work nt the Phersent Feed. Edwrrd Brown beceme president of the Student Council for the first semester ann Jerry Themes wrs president for the second semester. The other representetivos to x the council from our cless were Jernnc Chron . . end Beverly Dobberpuhl. Keith Taylor wrs appointed Sergcent-rt-rrms. In the wer stamp srles drive thft wfs sponsored by the Council, the Seniors hed r stupendous nfrgin on ell other classes. Reese Mathieu owned more steoos thrn env one else in th? entire high school. H L 19 Again our close was prominent in music and athletic lorganizetione. There were ten Scniors in the WSupcr1orf band, four in the Girls Gloc Club, and ten in Mixed Chorus. Keith Taylor, Edward Brown, Jerry Thomas, ' Lila Herr, Mrc Boullion, Beverly Dobborpuhl, Jernne Chnon, Betty Lofthouee, and Richrrd Hildebrrnt meds the honor roll. More of the Seniors would have been on the- honor roll had Economics not been r stumbling-block. , On April SO we attended Career Dey rt Redfield. All of ue enjoyed the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom held on Meyl5. Our high school life ended with Becoelrurerte on Sunday May 17, Clase Night on Mey 18, end Commencement on May 19. . It is new the first dey of May in the eventful yerr of 1962 and in the new auditorium of the new Conden High School building, lerected in 1960 at e cost of 349,000l we find the meeting of the Clase of '42 in progress, Of course, at eveU'gethering of this type there must be e master of ceremonies. Filling this role we find thrt curly haired, wise-cracking comedian-+-thet second Red Skelton---who is none othfr thrn our own Richerd Hildebrant. We ere not surprised et his position in life. He always was an extremely witty personege. Upon further investigation we find thrt he broadcasts over the hutuel Network every Tues, dey night for the new NFcrmule X557 Cnri Application Heir Curler.H From the looks of Red's heir, he certainly must be e prying advertisement for hi: sponsor. The meeting gets into full swing as Richerd cells upon the most distinguished member of the Clase of '42, You guessed it, he is nbne cthrr thrn that person, who we would cell a trifle imperirlistic, the Honorable Senrtor Keith Taylor. Yes, he 'might bf erlled - serond Senetor Rorrh for it looks es though he is e permfnfnt fixture in Congress. He wrs elwfys one who never gfve un hope es long as there wes e slight chance for success. Next we look to see what thrt other bright boy in our cless hes been doing to mcke the shillings roll his wryg of course we mean Edward Brown. We find 'tart Edwfrd hes fol- lowed.his father's footsteps end is doing flright for him- self,'nlthough he hesn't moved off of his form southwest of Conde, He has made r fortune growing wweeteorn--corn that has a neat little hrndle on the end of eeeh cob. This is quite en improvement end is eperecietwe by ell people of America because very few knew the correct wry of handling thet Hcornn before. Next upon the etrge comes that little yum-yum girl of the '42 Classy hrs. Robert White Knee Vetty .Lofth7u1el. Yes, after being- 0 successful nurse for fifteen yerrs she finally hooked e poor unsuspecting petirnt. We feel sorry for Bob who, efter eluding Betty for fifteen yeers, finally was confined in the hospital where Uetty worked. After Mrs. White hrs paused for breath, we see r men coming up the steus. He is weering overalls end e straw het and carries e pitchfork in his hfnd. Kp, it isn't thedevil, 21 it is our successful farmer friend, Carl Hanson. It seems that good old Sidney Bill is at his Utopia out on his farm east of town. Of course, we all remember the girl in high school who couldn't seem to find a Hsteadyn or Hunsteadyn, and here she comes now. We wish to introduce to you Mrs. Herman Liskovitch, formerly Anna Herring. We find she is operating a matrimonial bureau for the lovelorn as that is how she got Her-man and she wants to help other girls along the path of matrimony. Here comes Wyman Eske, the young man who was always a lover of the Juke-box specialty NThe Wabash Cannon-bhlfiv It seems that the song must have had some effect on his career as he is new the chief engineer on the Wabash Line. We find that Jeanne Chaon and Mae Boullion have merged their talents and invented a posture-inducing machine. They had it patented way back in 1949 and have made enought money to put them on easy street for life. After looking into the business we find the girls have Lloyd Lyren and Maurice Huber on the road selling this indispensible machine. We are sorry that Warren Dittus couldn't make it home for the reunion meeting, but he has sent us his greetings by telegram. It seems that as a Professor at Yale University, he finds it very difficult to leave during the regularschooi term. At the appearance of the next alumnus everyone seems to take a particular interest and all eyes are cast on this beautiful girl ascending to the stage. It is the one and only Gypsy Rose Nash. Of course, we always knew her as Shirley. She has made 9 name for herself, and is known all over the United States but for the first few years it was a pretty bare living to try and make both ends meet. Also acpearing with Miss Gypsy Rose Nash on the stage is her manager. He too is a mamber of our illustriousclassg it is none other than that nSpread it on Thickn Florian McPartland. That Uhacn really has got a line. Its too bad that he doesn't run some sort of a tackle shop. UMacn has been with most all the big entertainers but it seems that he prefers Shirley. As you know there always was a soft spot in his heart for that certain young lady. Of course we can't forget the brilliant girl of our class who is also here. It is Lila Herr Cnow Ball? who re- sides on a farm Northeast of the metrowolis of Verdon. It seems that the sparkle that glowed on her finger during the last year of high school wasn't just one of those Woolworth specials. She has had twenty years of marital bliss and we wish her many more. Whats this music we hear in the back of the auditoruim? You guessed it. The Surprise Band of 1962, Alton Rapp and his Rug-Cutter Jazz. The band is just on their way from the Strand in New York to make a picture in Hollywood so it is just by cahnce that we were able to have Rapp with us. One of tae outstanding qualities of the band is the Gob-Stick 2?.ir, beauty Beverly Dobberpuhl, who is also a sensational vocal- ist. Beverly was playing jobs in New York when Alton found her and signed her up to avpear with his band. We find Mildred Lienhard a successful Botanist. She has taken the place of the late Lurther Burbank. Sho has developed a potato that grows above ground and merely has to be picked. ' Up onto the stagerunvglides the graceful ballet dancer, Owen Klapperich. Of course, he has played all the large theaters in the United States and has given performancls abroad. He has just gotten back from a very successful trip to Paris. Keep those nimble feet going, Owen. Who is this that we see coming up in a wheet chair: No, it isn't the result of a car accident, it is just the worlds laziest man, Bill Hearnen. His servant tells us that Bill is Wworkingn in Ringling Brothers side show. Billdoesn't even say Uhcllon as he is too lazy. We always wondered, when he was in school, what he wrs studying to become. Over in a far corner we see two of the most successful graduates of '42, Reese Mathieu Jr. and Jerry Thomas, Mr. Mathiru was president of a fire cracker company and Jerry owned a firm that manufactured steam radiator valves, but these businesses blew up and so they combined their talents and are now making safety pins. This business is likely to hold the two men together for quite a while. It is 'rumored that at present they are discussing the construction of a pin plant in Verdon, which is Reese Mathieu's former home town. Now last but by no means least we find that character, Freddie Simmons. Has he got along in the world? I should hope to smile. He is now president of the Crosley Car Cor- poration. He ascended to presidency by his invention of the open air assembly line which makes exclusive use of skyhooks Good going Freddy! We always knew that your 'inventime genius would get you somewhere. The meeting ends with Alton's band playing UAuld Lang Synen and everyone drinks a toast to everyone elses success. Of course Bill Hearnen remained sitting to drink his toast as he was too lazy to stand up. 25 SENIOR PERSONALITIES MAE BOULLION Mixed Chorus lj Gloe Club lj Class President lg Class Play 5-43 Pep Club 43 Class Sec. 5 HOBBY---Roller Skating AMBITION---To be n stenograpner PET PEEVE---Wise cracks FAVORITE SUBJECT---Shorthand EDWARD BROWN Band l-2-5-43 Mixed Chorus 1-2-5-4: Basketball l-2-5-43 Annual Staff 53 Student Council 2-5-43 Class Play 53 Class Pres. 23 Vice-Pres. 52 Paper Staff 5'4S Sax Qunrtette 2-5-4: Student Council Pres. 43 Eoy's State Rcpresentative5n HOBBY---Collecting stamps AHEITION---To be a success PET PEEVE---Economics FAVORITE SUBJECT---Typing JEANNE CHAON Band 5-43 Kittcnbsll 23 Class Play 5-43 Student Council 43 Annual Staff 53 Pep Club 43 Paper Staff 5-4 HOBBY---Dancing AMBITION---Interior decorator PET PEEVE---Wise cracking boys FAVORITE SUBJECT---Latin WARREN DITTUS Band 23 Class Play 4 HOBBY---Hsve'nt any AMBITION---T0 be Q Great Man PET PEEVE---Women FAVORITE SUBJECT---English BEVERLY DOEBERPUHL Mixed Chorus l-2-5-43 Sextet lj Glec Club l-2-5 43 Bend 2-5-43 Class Play 5-43 Pep Club 2-5-43 Clarinet Quinette 51 Clarinet Solo 2-43 Student Council 5-43 Annual Staff 53 Paper Staff 5-43 Class Queen l-2-53 Pres. 53 Class Sec. 43 Kittenball l HOBBY---Reading AMBITION---To be successful PET PEEVE---Coneeited people anywhere FAVORITE SUBJECT---Typing 24 IIHAEI Bmw UGUNNERU -FDITTYH UIBEVII EIDWQFQTRN WYMAN ESKE UESKEN Baseball I-2-3-4 HOBBY---Dear hunting AMBITIONum-Wn1p the Japs PET PEEVEW--Studying FAVORITE SUBJECT---Business Law CARL HANSON NSIDNEY BILLU Farming ' HOBBY---Hunt1ng AMBITION---Farming PET PEEVE---School FAVORITE SUBJECT---Economics WILLIAM HEARNEN WBILLU Basketball l-5-4g Baseball l-2-5-4 HOBBY---Carpenter . We gallantly suffered the h dship of initiation and became full pledged members of t high school. Donald Quinn was elected to lead us through 'the year with Edith Hanson and Robert White as co-leaders. ' Mr, Sabaka was chosen our class advisor. Donald ,Quinn and Dorothy Taylor were our members to the Student Council. We began end ended our first year, with twenty-one people,hav- ing lost one pupil end gained another, namely, Austin Nash, who ddopped out of school and Donalda Olson who entered from Bradley. We were well represented in all activities outside of class, namely music, baseball, kittenball, and basketball As a celebration on becoming Sophomorcs, we greatly enjoyed the annual Picnic, at Lake Kampeska. Enrnlling the following year we found that we stall had twenty-one members two of whom wen? new, Lloyd Lyren , Alc- ester and Grace Gross of Bradley, 'hese two replaced Donald Quinn who moved to Aberdeen and Violetta Johnson who moved to California. We ended the yeer with nineteen members,how- ever, due to the fact that Grace Gross dropped out of school and Luella Lokcn moved to Watertown. To replace our old leaders we elected Dorothy Taylor as leader-in-chief and Neil Lenz and Frances Dunne as co-leaders. Betty Schneider and Lloyd Lyrcn were chosen to represent us in the Student Council and Mr. Koski was chosen class advisor. Un Septem- ber 2O the Freshman and Sophomores were hosts at a weiner roast given three miles Freshman ye but did not nament. At the picnic, for the entire high school. This was held about from town and all students hiked out. As ln our r we were well represented in outside activities show up well in the annual class basketball tour the end of our Sophomore year we greatly enyoyed again held at Lake Kampeska. Our Junior year, 1941-1942, began with gredt promises, for we had as many students in our class as were in the Senior Class. Later, however, we lost Dorothy Taylor, who moved to Brentford. He elected Betty Schneider as leader with Neil Lenz and Eleanor Dittus as co-lenders. 1M1ss O'Leary was chosen as class advisor. The Student Council, had more significance for us this year, as we were permitt- ed to have four members in it. They were: Betty Schneiden Wava Morrill, Robert White, and Neil Lenz. We found our Jun- ior year much more exciting, for now we could enter into act subsequently the annual ivities such as the school paper and which we took charge of at the beginning of the second sem- ester. We also put on n Junior Play, HOh, Promise Mein on November 14. Another privelege that we enjoyed was the Jdun- lor-Senior Banquet and Prom held May 14. The class also took part in a large share of the activities. In the class bask- etball tournament we ranked second. Me are anxiously look- ing forward to the picnic that will mark another milestone in our Great Adventure. 56 Wayne Vida Audrey Eleanor Eunice Lloyd Gleeva Eileen Bette gNeil Florence Robert Edith Boyd Donalda Catherine Dale Louis 'bv HVEI Freddie To To Be To EH EWEMR MRQI AHbITIONb QF THE JUNIOR-CLA5b get all he can out of school without studying. be good at whatever she does, a housewife. ride in a merry Oldsmobile, To live on a farm north of town, Wash dishes in a rooming house, To be a house-keeper in California. Upon their arrival, they are informed by Gerth's attorney thot the old man has died suddenly, leaving behind him a very unusuil will. This will provided that all the heirs are to remain in the house continuously fortwenty- four hours before they may know who is to inherit vhetp If any leave before the time is up, his share of the inherit- ence will be forfeited end divided among the others. . Then the fun begins! The house, which'has had e sinister reputa- tion for years, speedily lives up to its edvnnce notices. Ghosts, vanishing Quests, talking portraits, screams in the dark-ell these and much mor: contribute to the bewilderment of the hapless heirs. Before the night is out, stunning surprise after surprise is in store for thum-end for the audience as well.
