BASKZTBALL With five letter men from the team of U4OU, the Spartan basketball squad started one of the most successful seasons which Conde has seen since HSBN. Winning the first four games of the season from Stratford, Brentford, Doland, and Turton, the team went down in defeat to the conference chamgs of Bath. From then on the Spartans won eleven games and ost ten, making an average of 7376 victory over defeat. Defeating Turton in the first round of the Little Jim Tournament, Conde bowed their heads to Stratford in the se- cond, and finally came home with 3rd place. In the District Tournament at Redfield, the Spartans were defeated by Frank- fort and Rockham, but in a practice Tourney at Northville they placed Srd. There are seven men this year who are awarded WGN letters, they are Miesen, Cleveland, Dahl, Dittman, Reardon, Brown, and White. The first five of these men are graduates and their absence next year will be greatly noticed although there are prospects for a winning team from lower class men. 5uuu9F a-CJJ4 LMefe 'j,g'1,',,.,W'fa.'f,.. fr-vl3.0.j wfwjj' - BASEBALL 40' The fall of 1940 showed a successful' season for the Spartan baseball team. There were about twenty boys out for baseball, many veterans and some very prospective rookies were sitting on the bench chewing their fingernails and waiting for the chance that was soon to come. After a few practices the team was rapidly taking shape. The new boys were showing some of the very good ball playing that Coach Vincent was looking for and seemed to have found. The first of the fall games was at hgme, and was some- what of an upset by our defeat from Northville. The rest of the season was 1002 perfect, winning every game thereafter played. The teams the Spartans defeated were Northville and Brentford twice and Stratford once. Practices have been limited this spring due to our heavy rains. We have played games with Bath, Northville, Warner, Turton, Brentford and Stratford. M On May 10, the Little Six Conference was held at Stratford where Conde played Bath in the first round. Two trophies were given, one for the fall season and one for the Conference Champions. ' INTERCLASS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT With e two year championship lead, five of the first string m 'vf' n, from the Senior Class, downed the Freshics with a score of Skob in the first round of the Conde High School Tournaments Then with a hard fought game the Juniors next defeated the Sophomores with a lead of 10-3. In the consol- ation game the Sophomores took on the Freshmen, winning 21- 16, and then in the finals the Seniors won oar the 'Juniors by totaling 34 points to their rivals 12. 66
