s tastes Kenny VanOrnum fduowed the footsteps of his illustrious uncle and is now the mayor of the thriving metropolis of Conde. He also has a sideline running a WTeachers Taxi Servicen. He gained his one and only wish by marrying and settling down to marital bliss with a redhead of the class of .420 Dortha Zeck, I-found, is billed as the Rye-Krisp girl. She has a figure like an hour glass and makes every minute count. As I ran my finger down the list of national figures, I found that Marian Bradley has gained fame with her invention of a combination rat trap and fruit Juicer. ' Bernice McPartland is billed as a torch singer in the Stork Club beside Kenny Hildebrant. Between them both they really put feeling into their work. Donald Dittman is now the manager of WOne Punchu Hite, the sensational figure of the boxing world. During the first few years of married life Donald found out all he needed to know about fights and fighters. Besides being a boxer, WOne Punchu is also a 10 second man. He has been able to run around the ring 20 times in one round without having a hand laid on him. Lucille Bertsch and Maurice Huber collaborated and ln- vented a flavored firecracker to blow holes in Swiss cheesw. From all angles it appears to be a popping success. As I ran my finger down the list of notable names, I came across the name of Tommy Reardon. I was eager to find what had brought his name into the list. I read on and found that he is in Mexico fighting bulls. In school I often wondered why Tommy, the son of a railroad man who d1dn't know a oow's horn from a trumpet, wanted to take Agriculture. I guess he knew what he was doing though be- cause in his Job he has to know what a bull looks like. If Thomas is as good at his work as he is at talking, Ferdinand hasn't a chance. Continuing on through the book I found that Dick Miesen is pulling thru life as a dentist in Moosejaw, Saskatchewan. As a hobby he raises giant bullfrogs in his back yard. This is a very profitable hobby as he has greenbacks on hand at all times. I was glad to find someone employed in the field of Journalism. This person I found to be Elvira Wettstein, who was writing the column NMy Dayn in the newspapers. T h 1 e column was formerly written by Mrs. Roosevelt but her hus- band was in the White House so long that she developed writer's cramp and had to retire. Reading on I found that Elv1ra's southern hospitality and southern ways helped her to become a success in life. Esther Bain came through with the brilliant idea of oiling feathers and is now president of 'Bain Squeakless Pillows Inc.U This industry employs thousands of men and from what I hear Esther is just tickled pink. J Dean Taylor, clover young fellow, gained his fame by ' D' 17

1 SENIOR PROPHECY One spring day in 1961, I found myself wandering around my old home town of Conde, South Dakota, and I decided that I would spend a few of my leisure hours in the way of renew- ing old acquaintances of my schoolhood days. After ponder- ing a whlle on which was the best way to find their where- abouts and their occupations I concluded that I should visit the school in which I had spent so many uleisuren hours. As I ascended the stairs of the old schoolhouse Cerected in 19055 I recalled a few of my many experiences there. My first intention was to look up some of the student: and teachers to see lf I couldn't gain some information from them. On second thought I decided that these students and teachers now wandering around the halls would not be able to recall with any degree of accuracy the whereabouts of my former schoolmates. I finally decided to visit the publish- ing room of the school's periodicals to see if I could find some record of my schoolday pals. While brouslng around the texts and guides I happened to run across the 1961 edition of WWho's Who in Conden. I was overjoyed at the possible discovery of the fate of the class of '4l. Before opening the cover I wondered if any of ghem had been successful enough to have their name in WWho's hon. ' I opened the cover and thumbed through the introductory pages. On turning the first page of the contents I found that Wayne Cleveland, one of my old school cronies, is em- ployed as a sausage stretcher in Flnklest1en's Frankfurter Filling Station. With experience gained in the Conde Meat market, it was very easy for Mr. Cleveland to make both ends mea . I also found that Irvin Simmons is now head of the Plastic Surgery Department at Useless University in Noluck, Iowa. He was going the rounds every night with his new ln- ventlon, a fur lined gravy bowl. This was designed to keep Sunday's left-over gravy warm for Monday's'd1nner. I found that Dolores Bawek is a feather dancer -with Dippy Dahl's swing band. Charlie always wanted to become president of a breakfast food company but corney was the closest that he could come to corn. Dolores was doing all right at her chosen profession and seems to have a great futhre in store for her Cprovidlng birds continue to-grow feathersi. I found that Erwin Cleven is making his fortune as a gold miner in the Coteau Hills east of Crandall. Red is mining alone and has already taken out enough gold to make Death Valley Scottie look like a piker. Kenny Hlldebrant, the Conde crooner, is now a singer in the Stork Club. If he continues to put all of his weight behind his work,. he ls liable to push ahead of the Master Singers. p 16

inventing an sir-conditioned wooden leg with an electric clock attachment-which enables him to keep step with the times. ' On the last page of the ad section, I found the ada vertisement of the Sheldon-Wahl-Geary Horseshoe Company: The girls are making their fortune shoeing nightmares. Lucille Dittman, I found, has been working on the bark of n dogwood tree. So far Lucille has perfected it to such an extent that it barks in three different tones: tenor, bass , and baritone. Last, but by no means least, I found Doris Zeck engaged in the fascinating business of dehaunting haunted houses. This is no reflection on Doris' character -as sheg merely enters h house and begins to sing, which has Proven very successful thus far. ' I ' . 18
