SENIOR CLASS HISTORY May 20, 1941 brings to a close high school life for the class of '4l. We leave this school, as young men and women, to face the trials and tribulations in a troubled world. Thirty-one members made up the class as we entered these portals in the fall of '57. As tradition had it, we were thoroughly initiated by the unperclassmen. At first we were a bit shy of the massive halls and rooms of CHS but we soon learned to take our nlace in classes and in the affairs of the student body. Elected to guide us for the first year was loris Zeck as president and Nr. Vincent as class adviser. Being musically inclined, the class found itself well recre- sented in all musical organizations. The boys of the class took an active part in all athletic competition, as did the girls. Soon after the, school year started we lost June Ahlfs, who moved to Minnesota, and Dick Chaon, who decided to quit school. The days went by quickly and soon with final exams over we found ourselves Sonhomores. The class as a whole did O. K. for themselves at the school nicnic which was held at Melgard Park in the fair city of Aberdeen. Returning to school in '38 we found that we had lost the following members of our class: Pyhllis Benson who transferred to Groton: Martin Cleven who decided that farm- ing beat searching for knowledge: Velma Chandler launched herself upon the sea of matrlmonyz and Bob Funk who just naturally quit. We found that we had gained one new punil, Frances Gross, who entered Conde High School from the Brad- ley institution of learning. During the course of the year, the class of '41 really steooed into the spotlight. Iblores dawek was elected queen of Spartan Gala Day. Hlchard'M1esen, Wayne Cleveland, and Don Uittman made the first eight on the CHS basketball team. Tommy Reardon and Wayne Cleveland made up two-thirds of a trumpet trio. However the achievement giving us the greatest satisfaction was winning the inter- class basketball tourney. The Sophomore team defeated the Senior team in the first game and went on to down the Juniors which clinched championship honors. Leonard Dahl was chosen class president with Mr. Sabaka as class snonsor. Spring came and with it several of the boy's fancies turned to the thoughts of . Among those affected we found Wayne Cleveland and Donald Dittman who have never completely Fecovcred. The picnic was held at Lake Kampeska and was de- clared a success from all angles. Our Junior year fcund us making the Seniors do our bid- ding. We gained one new student, Albert Fits, to give us a total of twenty six in our class. Several of the class found themselves in the Athletic Benefit play NKid Colbyn which was presented on Spartan Gala Dey. Our candidate for queen, Luciile bhegdon, was defeated in the election for Spartan Gala Day Queen by the Senior entry, but only after several Senior Boys become financially embarassed due to 14
