Four staffs were here with planned activities to keep everyone busy. Freshmen Orientation had activities for the freshmen opening week, freshmen camp staff planned freshmen camp, and transfer orientation planned the week for the transfers. Freshmen were shown around campus, and could join in a water fight, ice cream social, and 'Almost Anything Goes'. Transfers could go to the dunes on Lake Michigan, a skit night, and a tour of Chicago. Operation Transition, headed by Wendy Neubauer, works on through the year planning activities. The staffs kept everyone busy which hopefully held off cases of homesickness. The field of those holding their breath was narrowed after the senior class picked the seven members of the homecoming court: Laura Abel, Kris Brockberg, Kay Faszholz, Cathy Jaeger, Wendy Neubauer, Laurie Stoppenhagen, and Linda Tamm. These girls spent an anxious few weeks while their fellow students made up their minds and voted and the Specy ,1. kept that special issue of the paper hidden. Friday night, Coronation, finally relieved their tension. Linda Tamm and Cathy laeger were named first and second runner-up. Finally the announcement all had been waiting for: The 1980 Homecoming queen is Miss Laura Abel! Crowned by 1979 queen, loy Sochowski, Laura is from Milwaukee, Wis. and is studying in the Social Work program here. The excitement of coronation was certainly a good way to start off the weekend. Here at Concordia student government is formed of the Executive Committee fExCommj and the Student Senators. The Executive Committee is elected by the whole student body while student senators are picked from each floor. Student senators bring grievances and ideas from the students on their floors to the senate meetings to be discussed and acted upon. The Executive Committee heads the senate meetings and takes proposals to the administration. This year there was a slight scare as two officers resigned, but their positions were quickly filled. Student government this year helped to change the intervis policy and worked on scholarships and recognitions for graduating students who had done well academically. f, 1 so - ....
