Tribute to Dr. Waldemar W. Affeldt ln tribute to Dr. Waldemar W. Affeldt the l973 Pillars Staff chose to dedicate the Pillars to the man for his great work and devotion to our campus. The theme Change seems to befit Dr. A. and his work with the students. As Director of Placement, he acted to change the lives of hundreds of CTC students. As an educator, he also served to change the student's outlooks and attitudes. Professor Kenneth R. Schueler, fellow faculty member and close friend of Dr. Affeldt, has written the following poem in tribute to Dr. Affeldt. Waldemar W. Affeldt, PH. D. - Change and decay - is that all there is? really? Wally Affeldt would not agree. He would not agree, not because he was difficult, but because he was different. Man he was - all man - solid, rooted to the realities of the earth - a man of his time. ln fifty-eight years of living, he was exposed to the full range of changes of his generation. He understood what it means to live in the moment before God. Not only did he endure. He overcame. For he had got his dying out of the way through Baptism into the Cross. ln the same event he had experienced resurrection. He was different because he was free to live - and live he did. He gave his life away. Why not? He was God's gift, and gifts are for giving - joyously - no strings attached - recklessly. Wally changed people with his gift. That kind of gift keeps on giving. That is why we celebrate the event of Wally Affeldt. Now he celebrates eternally the biggest change of all. Out of darkness shall come light. Out of winter shall come spring. Out of striving shall come peace. Out of death shall come life. Not by our power, but by the power of our Godl THANK YOU, WALLY, FOR YOUR GIFT. krs 57 DAVID T. Gard. With quite a combination of talent, this year's band was one of the greatest sounding one's ever. However, it was not only talent that made the band great, but also the mixture of personalities and Christian brotherhood among both the members of the band and their director. The band had a very successful and memorable band tour this year. Both the members of the band and the students of Concordia were very. happy when Prof. Gard decided to stay on as Concordia's band director. Now we will con-l tinue to hear that big time sound from our favorite band. , l l r l l ioa l li- P ' 9155.11 I 7.1 Y NRA' . 3 w. mug Mcg,...'fr 109 Thats the spirit - pult together We'ro a team and we are Na. 1.
