CONCORDIA TEACHERS COLLEGE RIVER FOREST, ILLINOIS Lois Hasenyager, Editor IVIrs. Dressler, Advisor 1972 PILLARS 'I When I think of yesterday I think of college where everything begins and ends. Of the morning mist and glaring sunlight And of the changing of the seasons and how I seemed to be changing with them. As the year progressed the campus changed and so did I. 2 Q EE EE Ez, I r I! m 5 5 9 E E1 E 5 ,. I I .IV During those short walks to class I would grope in the muck among the other people. Some of them smiled at me. It meant hello That was all there was. But some days there was more than just a smile. Sometimes we stopped to solve world problems. Thinking was best in the morning before class, walking on the sidewalk, crowded with people who were also thinking as we passed each other. The faces reminded me of some experience or thought and faded from thought to thought, each ending and beginning with a face. ..,, l v,....,..........g.g:ld'v 'N jx My K Vilflfiltl I . - in F s.,y -JL! 7' 5s 1' I think of those busy administrators, those endless meetings to determine the Whos, the whats, and, more important, the whys. I wonder why I never investigated, why I never searched out the answers for myself except that everything was beautiful and I was happy. IVIy mind was elated by images and experiences. I think of it still more. Questions were darkened by the cool dimness of content. A6 1 f I K I Q , . i , ' L . 2 'W v.. .X ,Q.,' nyg., - A s1fFQr'fQ 'Q 'QW' H. V? QL ,.-.. 1 x ' if ' ?'5 Lil J-4.. Just what does the future contain? an inner-city call to New York City? marriage - a new life in itself? a new life, a new dream? A devotion to the future generation, to the shaping and molding of their minds. Sophomore Year That year of finally being an upperclassman and being able to command a freshman to sing the Alma Mater - which you probably have forgotten For girls, it's being able to pay that ten dollars each quarter for self-regulatory hours. lt's the year of the big choice - secondary or elementary?? what do I want for my sequence'?? It's sharing the same faculty advisor with over six hundred other students - a real personal situation. But sophomore year is when you can finally feel you know your classmates and share a common bond with them. A little more maturity than ever before, thoughts of high school fade away and lose their importance. Yesterday is a remembrance, tomorrow is still a dream. -rffvvf :grin Q 4 1. How many alphas and omegas are there left? He is Alpha and Omega, So there are many days ahead. How will He allot the days to me? The days are His to give, The days are mine to live. How will l live what He gives? I will wait on Him to give. He will wait on me to live. So shall He and I give to live Together. Just a few days shy of the omega of my presidency and of the alpha of my new calling, I commend each one of you to that blessed togetherness with Him Who has embraced us in His love and to that meaningful togetherness with each other which is also a mark of His grace in our lives. Anything and everything which seeks to disrupt or destroy our togetherness with Christ and in Christ is diabolic. Let no one try to sanctify any efforts to divide Christ or His body with holy words or pious deeds. Rather, give yourselves to the task given you: the ministry of reconciliation. Give yourselves joyfully, devoutly, and unswervingly to that godly goal. Let it be the theme of your ministry from alpha to omega for the sake of Alpha and Omega. Martin L. President Koehneke spoke his final address to the Concordia Community on May 4, 1972, as Call Night regained its usual traditional style. Prior to the service, seniors and interns were notified as to whether or not they would receive a call as of the Call Night Service. But all were held in suspense as they awaited that mainla envelope which held the key to much of their futures. Being a cheerleader involves a lot of patience, time, and just plain hard work. This year Concordia had six enthusiastic cheerleaders plus a great Charley Cougar, all of whom aroused CTC spirit from spectators at nearly twenty basketball games and almost ten football games. In addition, six male cheerleaders were added to the squad, just in time for the basketball season. They gave a new look as well as a lot of great cheering power to CTC. x -4-4, L Left to right: Sandy Vviese, Sophomore, Barb Vallesky, Captain, Seniorg Judy Daniels, Sophomoreg Charley T. The Pom-Pom squad was led by Co-Captains Joanne Kuk and Eileen Schmidt. Squad leaders were Bonnie Borcher and Donna Ferrebee. lvlrs. Nancy Dressler served as Faculty Advisor. The Cougarettes participated in various projects designed to raise school spirit such as selling Cougar Balloons during Homecoming Week-end. Preceding CIT, the squad sponsored a tea to greet members of Porn-Pom groups from Concordia St. Paul and Concordia Seward. Miss Klatt and her twenty-two member softball team had a good season, winning four games and losing six. The Kittens faced tough opposition, playing Northern Illinois twice and Eastern Illinois and Northeastern Illinois each one time. Three members completed the season with averages over .500, those being Phyllis Ruggier, Ruth Buhrke, and Kathy Sandfort. Once again, Kathy Sandfort proved to be a tough left-handed pitcher and, when combined with catcher Ruth Buhrke, the Kittens were a very strong team.
