Students put in many long hours of rehearsal hefore the musical organization to which they helong presents an enlightening perform- ance. The College Chorus under the direction of Professor Waldschmidt is the largest of these organi- zations. lts membership is made up of memhers of hoth college choirs and many other students on cam- pus. This past year the College Chorus presented Handelss nlxflessiahn and Bachys Mass in B Minor,,, of which hoth performances were well attended hy the students and neighhoring residents of the Chicago area. During this past year, Professor Gieschen, director of the Senior College Choir, and Professor Bunjes, di- rector of the Junior College Choir, worlced hard with their mixed-voice choirs to present many performances in the Chicago area and in distant cities such as Val- paraiso at the new University Memorial Chapel. Under the direction of Professor Zeddies, an all- temale voice Trehte Choir, along with the two college choirs, provided selections for our daily chapel services and our special school services. This past year also hrought a new director to our campus. The new face hehind the haton that directed our Concordia College Band was that of Mr, Rohlting. The Band helped cheer our athletes on to many vic- 14 tories hy providing music at foothall and haslcetloall games. Une of the highlights of the Bands activities was the Contemporary Music Concert which they pre- sented in Fehruary. A small group of musicians that rovided musical enjoyment to many students at lorealctjast and at after- game receptions, was the Dominoes. The Dominoes were under the leadership of Bill Richardt. Two singing groups, the Collegiettes and the Collegians, have also helped out with special school services, hesides malcing guest appearances in the nearhy area. The Collegiettes, an all-female group, was under the direction of Harriet Lange. Dennis .lanlco led the Collegians, an all-mate group. A new singing group appeared this year on our campus H the Madrigals H under the direction of Richard Heschlce. Madrigal singing is a different style of entertainment. The Madrigal group was composed of twelve memhers, each one of whom sings rather independently, hut joins her or his vocal tones into one texture in the group. Madrigals are polyphonic com- positions with a generally secular text. This group was primarily concemed with the singing ot madrigals with introduction of appropriate miscellaneous materials for scheduled Campus events. The Madrigat group made guest appearances and helped at special school services. JUNIOR COLLEGE CHOIR . - '- ' if -'I I Ra Q.. ff .-f V W ' I 1. In I ' ... .Q , - ... .. :.- :,- if .. . For Coaches Brocldnerg, Spitz, and Martineia there was the surprise of Fielding one of the largest ever here at CTC. For the players and spectators a new formation was introduced hy Head Coach Broclcherg, the Wing T, This new offensive system actually worked hetter than is shown hy the seasonal record, for the team was hard hit hy injuries and lack of experienced depth. For the players and fans there was a great deal of excitement. There were many close games played this year and the excitement in each was great. The team showed a lot of nthc old Cougaru Fight and desire, and the fans showed a lot of enthusiasm and support. ' Are you more perceptive spiritually, so that you see more clearly the reality, the ugliness, the guilt, and the consequences of your sin and the reality, the heauty, the freedom, and the consequences of the grace of God in Christ Jesus toward you? Have you grown in the practice of prayer? Do you understand more fully that praying is more a doxology than a treasure hunt? Are you holder in approaching the Throne of Grace? tn Chapel one day I said to you: HDO not hesitate, since He loves you, to spread out hefore Him att your foutness, your meanness, your unworthy thought, your struggles for purity, and astc Him to clean you up with His pardon and clean you out with His Spirit. Tell God everythingtu Are you teaming to do this? P h Are you enjoying more your holy status as sons and daughters of God? I rememher when I told your To so many Christians it seems as though Christianity were a prohihition of things that they would very much like to do and a matter of commands to do things that they would much rather not dot But for friends of God the cold words duty, must, should, are replaced hy delight, cannot hut, and wilt. Have you discovered more Fully the joy of your salvation and the joy of serving? Have you grown in your capacity to trust God, to take Him at His Word, to stake the Htittteu and the Ubigi' things of life on His promises? We said once: mfhe more we commit ourselves to God and to His good and gracious wilt, the more will we suhmit ourselves to Him and to His daily direction. The quiet heart is a committing and a suhmitting heartf, Have you come to understand hetter lathe peace of God which passeth att understandingu? Perhaps you have forgotten these Words: The quiet heart never regrets the confidence it has laced in God in the past. Qur past serves as living proof that the satrest ptace to deposit ourselves is in the hands of Godf, The more you trust the unchanging Christ, the more peace. you will have in the changing scenes of life, he- cause 'tHe is our Peacef' Are you anxious to serve and less anxious to he served? You are entering the ministry of the Gospel, and to minister is to serve! Perhaps it was hecause we were so anxious to see the Church hlessed hy your ministry that we said in Chapel: :Service is the test of humility. There are plenty of people who protest that they are humhle, hut they never do any world If they meant it, they would serve! There are ,a great many professing Christians, who, when asked to serve, say with awesome humility that they do not have the gifts. Well, this may he true in some instances, hut there are too many of us who are humhte when there is something to he done! That -sort of humility is sham. Service is the testand proof of humilityf' Godlgo with you into your ministry, graduates. And when you come hack to Concordia, I hope I will have difficulty recognizing you, hecause you wilt have changed so much. You will change, my sons and daughters in Christ, if you Iceep on growing in Christ. Your friend in Christ, . Z.' sident 5' Y a II i emnrizxni l l l i l l ! XVALTER O.
