ln Christ, dear Graduates of l958 - There is a fascinating aspect to an- onymity. lt awakens curiosity. lt provides shelter for unpretentious love. The Biblical account of the Good Samaritan is a case in point. Who was this man? Why is he left unnamed? His anonymity forces the introspective question: Am I a Good Samaritan? ln Arlington National Cemetery there is a tomb. And on this tomb is an inscription: Here rests in honored glory an American soldier known but to God. The sculptured figures on the tomb represent Peace, Victory and Valor. Who this man is is not as important as what he represents. God knows his name and his deeds of valor. The servant of the living God needs to develop a passion for the right kind of anonymity. We dare not strive to win the favor of the crowd. Our faithfulness should not depend upon the fast-withering bou' quets of human adulation. He who serves must constantly battle against his inner selfishness which asks: What shall we have therefore? fSt. Matthew l9: 27.3 God knows your name. He says: Fear not: for l have redeemed thee, l have called thee by thy name, thou art Mine. Clsaiah 43: l.J God knows what you do for Him and for His people. He says: l know thy works. fRevelation 2: 2.2 Do not be afraid to cast your bread upon the waters. fEcclesiastes ll: l.J You have all the reason in the world to give your- self unequivocally to the service of God and man. Iesus Christ Who made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant fljhilippians 2: 73 has redeemed you for this service. My son or daughter in Christ, give Christ your heart, and He will have your service. Then you can serve with valor, even though your own form of heroism is known but to God. tfftwfs M. L.
