Who are these people? These people are the Christians, who through donation of their generous gifts, have made Concordia, as we know it, pos- sible. Looking over a list of all the things at Concordia which have been donated, one is startled to find that almost everything is the gift of someone or some group. Cur gym, new track, art collection, library furnishings, science building, and countless other things have been given to our school as gifts by Christians who use their Godfgiven means for His glory. To make a list of people who have do- nated to our school would be an impossi- bilityr To thank them all personally would be even more impossible. But by dedicating this l958 Pillars to you, Mr. and Mrs. Anony- mous, we hope in some small measure to express our gratitude to you for making our Concordia what is it, Zjjdjej Pillars is the name of this book which contains pictures of Concordia and its people. The pillars which front the Ad- ministration Building are a distinguishing feature of our school's architecture. We who have been your teachers hope and pray that these pillars are merely representative of other and more substantial supports for your future lives and careers, Our every aim and effort has been to provide you With a program of study and activity - in a dedicated Christian atmosphere - which will serve as a sure foundation for you in time and eternity. For this is Where the top of the pillar is - in eternity. The real pillars ct Con- cordia are built to end only there. Re- member this as you leave to build other pillars for the lives of those you serve. Lemme CARL HALTER Dean of Students CARL HALTER Dean of Students ln Christ, dear Graduates of l958 - There is a fascinating aspect to an- onymity. lt awakens curiosity. lt provides shelter for unpretentious love. The Biblical account of the Good Samaritan is a case in point. Who was this man? Why is he left unnamed? His anonymity forces the introspective question: Am I a Good Samaritan? ln Arlington National Cemetery there is a tomb. And on this tomb is an inscription: Here rests in honored glory an American soldier known but to God. The sculptured figures on the tomb represent Peace, Victory and Valor. Who this man is is not as important as what he represents. God knows his name and his deeds of valor. The servant of the living God needs to develop a passion for the right kind of anonymity. We dare not strive to win the favor of the crowd. Our faithfulness should not depend upon the fast-withering bou' quets of human adulation. He who serves must constantly battle against his inner selfishness which asks: What shall we have therefore? fSt. Matthew l9: 27.3 God knows your name. He says: Fear not: for l have redeemed thee, l have called thee by thy name, thou art Mine. Clsaiah 43: l.J God knows what you do for Him and for His people. He says: l know thy works. fRevelation 2: 2.2 Do not be afraid to cast your bread upon the waters. fEcclesiastes ll: l.J You have all the reason in the world to give your- self unequivocally to the service of God and man. Iesus Christ Who made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant fljhilippians 2: 73 has redeemed you for this service. My son or daughter in Christ, give Christ your heart, and He will have your service. Then you can serve with valor, even though your own form of heroism is known but to God. tfftwfs M. L. Koehneke President M. L. KOEHNEKE President 5 W 93532, As we enter the library, the first thing We see is the globe, one of the many generous donations to the college. This globe is symbolical of the responsibility of each student, both to his God and to the World. It is here in the library that the student is given the op- portunity to fulfill his responsi- bility. The Lord by wisdom hath founded the earthy by understanding hath he estab- lished the heavens.
