Dedication Mr. Christ H. Carbers We are proud to dedicate this yearbook to a lay member of the Church, Mr. Christ H. Garbers. Mr. Garbers has served the Church in many capacities. Concordia knows him best as a hard work- ing member of the Board of Control. Born in 1882 in Germany, Mr. Carbers has been a resident of Oak Park, Illinois since 1893. In 1918 he organized the Central Grocers Co-operative Inc., and served as president of that company from 1918 to 1952. As a member of Grace Church in River Forest, Mr. Carbers served as an Elder, chairman of the Stewardship and the Mission Committees, and vice chairman of the Building Committee. Always a willing servant of Christ and the Church, he was elected to the Board of Control of Concordia in 1930. He was treasurer of the Board from 1930 to 1950. Mr. Carbers retired from the Board in 1950, but was asked to stay on as treasurer. He served in this capacity until 1953. During Mr. Carbers' term of office he was chair- man of the Building Committee and as such was in- strumental in the erection of the Library and Mary- Martha Hall. While being interviewed, Mr. Carbers asked that the following statement be included in this article: I would like to pay special tribute to the students of Concordia. Through all the years of my association with your school 1 have observed that Concordia students are truly Christian young people in word and action, always showing Christian love both on the campus and in the Oak Park - River Forest community. My business associates and friends in the community have often ex- pressed the same sentimentf, ln response to Mr. Carbers, and in appreciation for all that he has done, we would like to say as St. Paul has said: I thank my God upon every remem- brance of you.
