Shades! Safari clothes! Jams! Bikinis! Overalls! Boots! All of these elements were a huge part of Spirit Week in 1987. Many students participat- ed in the various activities going on during the week. On Tuesday, it was desig- nated as Beach Day, the theme was Wipe Out the Wildcats. Wednesday, the stu- dents dressed up in safari clothes and were ready to Hunt the Wildcats. On Thursday, kids came as farmers and the theme was Harvest the Wildcats. Then on Friday, it was the traditional Red and Button Day. Even though their class float didn't make it to the parade, the senior class still had enough spirit to win the Spirit Stick. Winning the float competition was once again the soph- omores. The freshmen came in second, and last but not least were the seniors. Did you notice anything wrong? Where were the juniors? Let's just say they experienced a few problems. It never seems to fail that during Spirit Week most stu- dents act more crazy and school actually seems fun. That's why in 1987, Actions Spoke Louder than WordsI Panthers succeed to “Wipe Out the Wildcats!” 2 Splrit Week

McDaniel is 1987 “Mr. Panther” anther Prowl 87 was bigger and better than ever before! The action packed evening featured everything from a death- defying bicycle act to a 100 foot long hotdog-like, air filled plastic sculpture. The StuCo sponsored event, (spear-headed by advisor Ken Meyer, president Traci Charbonneau. and vice-president Nicole Hanson), en- abled fourteen various clubs and organizations to raise money for their annual goals. Approximately $434 were divided up by the groups at the end of the night. Special attractions included; a FHA tricycle race, a C-club car bash, a Spanish club tortilla-flipping contest, and an OEA nerf-ball hoop shoot. Even the Sports club jail imprisoned many teachers and students throughout the night for misbehavior, penalties lasted ten minutes and a nominal charge enabled a person to leove early. Without question, the highlight of the evening was the ever-popular, action packed Mr. Panther contest. Nine supposedly talented'' seniors competed for the illustrious title with the judges finally selecting Andre McDaniel as its overall winner. Their selection was based on talent, legs, and workability within a group. Close runner-ups were juggling phenom Lenn Shipman and freestyle biker Tad Collins. Lenn pumped up the crowd with a juggling act to the song Wipe Out. Tad thrilled the crowd with his hi-tech bike by having people from the audience Idy on their backs, side by side, and jumping over them. He cleared not one, not two, but three humans who sacrificed their bodies for the benefit of the performance. Needless to say, the crowd went wild. A special thanks to the participants in the contest; Winner Andre McDaniel, Neal Hartshorn, Lenn Shipman, Terry Carlgren. Bryan Vignery. Trent Coppoc, Jeff Burdett, Tad Collins, and Kendall Talley. 4 Panther Prowl
