Sight And Sound Look at them yo-yo's. That's the way ya do it. Ya play your guitar on the MTV. DIRE STRAITS made this song no. 1 until HUEY LEWIS AND THE NEWS came with The Power of Love from the movie BACK TO THE FUTURE. Another movie soundtrack hit was ST. ELMO'S FIRE. Former Eagle John Parr sang it. Music from TV took the charts by force. MIAMI VICE had a soundtrack with songs like Smugglers' Blues and You Belong to the City. Many foreign bands were popular in the US. From Oslo, Norway A-HA sang Take on Me and The Sun Always Shines ON TV TEARS FOR FEARS had the smash hits Shout , Head Over Heels and Everybody Wants to Rule the World. WHAM! From England did MAKE IT BEST includ- ing Careless Whisper and Freedom. I'm Your Man off their second album climbed to the top. Canadian BRYAN ADAMS sang about Heav- en and One Night Love Affair. Heavy Metal? After coming back from a violent car accident, MOTLEY CRUE came up with a 60's remake of Smokin' in the Boys' Room. RATT came in and INVADED YOUR PRIVACY with You're in Love. ZZ TOP stormed up the charts with Sleeping Bag , renaming it then as Heavy Metals Rings. Fun, Music 5

The Way We Were Everyone wants to be in with the latest styles and fashions. Name brands big at CHS include Gitan, Brittaniz, Levi Strauss, Esprit, Ocean Pa- cific, Sunset Blues by Chic, Zena, Gasoline, Guess, Organically Grown and Gunne Sax. Clothing designs featured cropped pants and tops, brocade pants, jodphurs, Levi 501, Levi 505 pinstripes, shaker sweaters, oxfords, mini- skirts, turtlenecks, stirrup pants and polos. Most were patterned by flowers, pastels and plaids but definitely not neon. Fashion trends returned to the 50's. Accessories were outrageous including over- sized earrings, belts, necklaces and hats. Other popular wardrobe additions were rhinestone pins, hi-tops, flats, loafer, boots and pears. Van- derbilt, Le Jardin and Lauren were the main scents for women while the men wore Stetson, Polo and Chaps Musk. Popular among both sexes were Halston, Jordache and Night Musk. Hairstyles stayed basically the same with bobs, spikes, tails and lots of curls on both guys and gals. A number of guys wore no socks. Some students left high top basketball shoes unlaced. Whether or not you were classified as in , it was always important to be yourself and mabe your own trendsetter. 4 Year in Review
