Logizomechanophobia Some people in our society have the condi- tion of logizomechanophobia which is a technical name for the fear of computers. Concordia Junior-Senior High staff members work to dispel that fear. Here Jolene Cassel and Jeff Bray of the Computer Generation are acquainting themselves with the Silicone Society wonder, microchips and program- ming statements. 10 ? WELCOME TO COMPUTERS 20 ? A Review Of The Year What an interesting year of dramatic contrasts! Inflation went down, but double digit unemployment played havoc with many lives. The local agri- cultural economy saw depressed farm prices and an extremely wet growing season. Sports fans enjoyed a topsy- turvy World Series with the St. Louis Cardinals emerging as victors. Movie fans were inspired by the theme song of Rocky III . The football strike changed the habits of many sports fans on Sunday afternoon and Monday Night. The Tylenol scare frightened the gen- eral public. The off year elections showed mixed reaction to the Reagan- omics. Jobs became a major issue. Most citizens were greatly relieved after November 2 when they no longer had to listen to or watch political com- mercials. Video addiction was especially evident in the arcades as Pac Man and Donkey Kong reigned supreme, consuming both opponents and operators' quar- ters. Speilburg's E.T.'s quest to phone home captured the hearts of the big- gest movie audience ever. The movie Gandhi and the message of non-vio- lence made its impact. Many music fans enjoyed Alabama's Mountain Music, along with many other songs. This year's fashions kicked with such styles as ruffled blouses, straight legged pants and the popular prairie skirts and petticoats that created the country look . Jeans with well known designer names were an always favorite. Con- cert shirts were tough along with Nike tennis shoes. The guys wore jeans with assorted hind pocket designs, ox- fords and polo shirts. Permanents cov- ered many heads of both gals and guys. Fads hit the scene with friend- ship pins and crazy shoestrings. Smurfs and Garfield the cat were favorites on notebook covers. Fads came and went, but genuine fashions stayed for awhile. These pictures show many people being themselves. 12 Commentary

Students And Alumni Love The Panthers! Felis Concolor The staff did a little research on the technical scientific name for panther. Biology teacher, Mr. Ron Shipman helped with the correct nomencla- ture. The Audubon Nature Encyclopedia gave Fe- lis Concolor as the name for the panther, cougar, painter, mountain lion, puma, and a catamount (sometimes called a catamountain). Some authori- ties also recognize the name Puma Concolor for this group of animals.
