Opposite bottom: The 1930 Hurkaru published this pic- ture of the High School in its last year of operation. Top this page: This was the high school shop for Manual Arts as it appeared in the 1922 Hurkaru. This was locat ed directly north of the earlier High School. Middle this page: That same year the Domestic Science and Art class (Home Economics today) posed for this picture. 1953 CHS band goes in October to Homecoming for President Eisenhower in Abilene. 1957 New Gymnasium and the junior high class- rooms open for use. 1958 American Field Service student exchange pro- gram begins at CHS. 1962 CHS wins the athletic Triple Crown league championship in football, basketball and track. Multi-purpose and music rooms are added along with the outside memorial bulletin board at the high school entrance. New Notre Dame High School (the current Mid- dle School) is built. 1965 Cloud County Community College conducts first classes on February 8 in the high school. USD 333 unifies. Concordia High and James- town High operate as independent units. Wrestling starts again as a competitive sport. 1966 Aurora High School closes after 50 years. 1968 The Vocational Shop Building is added to CHS campus. Cloud County Community College moves to its own new campus. 1969 Notre Dame High closes and merges with Con- cordia High. 1970 USD 333 and 224 form Special Education Co-op to meet federal mandate. FFA Chapter wins National Gold Emblem. 1973 The Media Center, wrestling room and cafete- ria kitchen are first used. 1974 North Central Learning Co-op expands, includ- ing USD 426. 427, 455 and 221. 1976 Girls volleyball team wins 4-A state champion- ship. 1977 The auditorium and Home Ec Dept, are remod- eled. New stadium and pressboxes are constructed. 5 1978 Girls volleyball team wins second 4-A state championship.

1925 Student Advisory Board (SAB) forms. National Honor Society consisting of top 15 per cent organizes. 1926 Block of land is purchased for current high school site for $9.240. 1927 Cheerleaders purchase white sweaters with emblems. Scarlet fever causes some school absentism. Girls Athletic Association organizes a rifle team. CHS enjoys Circus Day (first Homecoming). 1929 Athletic program adds wrestling. New subjects include General Mechanics and Journalism. Commercial Club is organized by Shorthand II. The girls athletic program offers volleyball and lawn hockey. 1930's School rings and pins are available to stu- dents. Operator Club deals with audio-visual materials. 1936 CHS presents a play which portrays Nazis in- vading a Czechoslovakian village. 1941-45 U.S. involvement in World War II curtails many activities. Numerous alumni serve hon- orably. Some pay the supreme sacrifice. 1943 CHS band plays at POW Camp Concordia. 1944 Notre Dame Catholic High opens at East Sev- enth and Matthew (site of Concordia Business and Normal College 1922-33). 1945 CHS band goes in June to welcome General Dwight D. Eisenhower home in Abilene. 1947 CHS band in January goes to the inauguration of Governor Frank Carlson (alumnus of CHS) in Topeka. He later served as U.S. Senator from 1951 to 1968. The Work Experience Club (forerunner of C.I.T., D.E. and O.E.) organizes. 1949 CHS becomes a participant in the vocational homemaking program. Tin Panthers Den 4 1950 Guidance begins at CHS.

The gentleman is Professor T. A. Sawhill, their teacher. -1979 Debate team wins 4-A state championship. 1980 Jamestown High School closes and merges with Concordia High.
