Boardman, R. Nease, S. Weigand. Mr. Miner--ass't director The 1972-73 band year began for some band members - the twirlers and the flag twirlers - in the middle of the sum- mer. Then Mr. Ensign and the band in its entirety welcomed the assistant band di- rector, Mr. Miner, and his ideas for a proud marching season by turning out for marching practice in the hot w’eek before school began. The practice paid off in the most spectacular football show's CHS has ever seen, and the expense of the new uniforms was justified in the very com- plimentary II rating received at Wichita State University in the first precision marching contest the band has ever en- tered. As usual, Pep Band enjoyed play- ing its unique kind of music at pep as- semblies and Basketball games and re- ceived favorable comment from home fans and visitors alike. The successful marching season aptly introduced the advent of Concert Band, w'hich was praised by clinicians at League Clinic, as was Stage Band at the Riley County Stage Band Festival. Clinics by Paul Shull and The K-State staff and by Matt Benton were a helpful new’ activity for the band, which brought home fourteen I ratings from State Contest. Band closed out a good year with CHS Alumnus Chris Hamilton as guest soloist at the Spring Concert.
