Larry Metro Mike Montoya Bill Carlow Larry Walton Bob Tracy Mike McMenomey The Panthers were led in state competi- tion by Larry Walton who won the javelin, took second in the 220 with 22.4, placed third in the 100 with 10.0, and ran the anchor leg on the second place 880 yard relay team in 1:31.9. Our 880 yard relay team consisted of Bill Carlow, Alan Souchek, Fred Foster, and Larry Walton. The medley relay placed fourth and was made up of Pete Hish, Bill Carlow, Norman Clark, Mike Me Menomey. Coach Bob Baumann's talent-laden squad has to be one of the most powerful teams ever assembled at CHS. Gifted with a fine stable of sprinters led by Larry Walton, Bill Carlow, Fred Foster, Alan Souchek, and Norman Clark, the Panthers dominated the Sprint events throughout the season. The distance runners led by John Horkman, Doug Mon- toya, Mike Montoya, Mike McMenomey, Bryan Deal, and Mike O'Connor Dominated the 880, mile, two mile, and two-mile relay during the entire relay circuit. Tremendous improvement in the field events culminated with Larry Walton's 195 feet 10 1 2 inch javelin throw which placed him first in the state championships and established a new school record for this event Still another outstanding performance was turned in by Mark Breault, junior pole vaulter, who vaulted 13 feet 4 inches and placed third in state compe- tition. A large part of the improvement of the field events can be directly traced to the outstanding job by coaches Larry Nelson and Jim Coppoc, who spent many long hours instructing these two young men. -Coach Baumann. Jenni Emmel holds the new high jump record for both the Concordia and Chapman meets while Margo Thompson holds the new record in the 880 yard run for these meets. The best team performance by the track squad was exhib- ited when Concordia won the Marysville Triangular and placed fourth in their own invitational meet. In the regional meet Jenni Emmel placed second in the high jump and Margo Thompson placed fourth in the 880 yard run. For their participation in track this year, Jenni Emmel, Margo Thompson, Jacque Passmore, Peggy Colby, and Cleo Childers each earned a letter. The majority of the team was composed of ninth grade girls. Next year, if these same girls participate in track, we should build a very strong squad. Miss Mock— Coach.
