Their gen- uine concern and interest in all aspects of school life have contributed much to their success in making this school dis- trict as fine as it is. They are to be commended for their excellent work. 4 Administration Oversees Activities At C.H.S. DONALD MUSICK, Principal of C. H. S. Striving to engender and perpetuate in each and every student the characteristic dynam- ic spirit of a Panther, our administrators find themselves faced with a busy schedule. They spend many hours trying to make the best aspects of school available to each stu- dent. They either bring about, approve, co- ordinate, or organize most of the school's activities. Without them our school could not function. BACK: Harold Clark, Superintendent; Paul Koehn, Assistant Superintendent; John Herbin; William Berner; Martha Fyfe, Clerk; Celeste McComas. President. Responsibility for determining the gen- eral policies of the Unified District Pub- lic school system is the board of educa- tion's. Members of the board serve as the representatives of the voters in carrying out purpose and function of the public schools. Members of the district board devote many hours of service to the business of the schools, meeting regularly the first Monday evening in each month. In a year's time, this will add up to many hours of Board of Educa- tion business. At Commencement exercises, Mr. Clark presented special plaques in rec- ognition of the service given by two out- going board members--Mrs. Celeste McComas and Mr. George Ganstrom. Mr. Ganstrom has served for 7 years and Mrs. McComas for 10 years. 6 Mrs. Celeste McComas, president of the school board, keeps other board members well in hand. A. G. VanKOOTEN M.S. Secretary Treasurer Senior Class 1969 The class of '69 began their enthusiastic Peace March from Freshman City to Graduationville in September of '65. For the first year of the March, the group chose Ron Green as their leader and spokesman. Dave Edington, a no- ble fighter for the Cause, lent him a hand. Ann Doyen took care of propaganda distribution and Sally Humes raised funds for the March. With the March readily underway, the police were called. Police Chief Miss Peck, amid shouts of police brutality! stepped in, along with officers Reynolds, Schenk, Workman, and Werhan. Soon the demonstrators reached Sophomore County. Larry Erickson headed up the March. Other influential shouters were Barb Boyd, Larry's assistant, and Sally Humes, pamphlet distributor. The group had some trouble with Brice Leon, the pick-pocket. Again the Marchers became rowdy, and the National Guard was sent in, headed by Captain Mrs. Pearson and Sergeants Peck, Workman, Mikesell, and Perkins. Now fully aware of their Cause, the Marchers threw a big Hippie Bash just after entering Junior Valley. Mahari- shi Mary Emery took over the leadership of the group. Assistant Flower Child was Larry Erickson. Ann Doyen passed out picket signs, and Nancy Day collected money for an even bigger bash to be held later. A Carousel was brought in for the Marchers' entertainment by loyal worker Mr. Hosie, and His assistants Mrs. Davis, Mr. Johns, Mr. Willians, and Miss Boyd. The party ballooned into a big success. Entering the lofty heights of Senior Mountains, the group chose an intellectual-type leader, Susan Hattan. The Reverend Gary Charbonneau was her faithful assistant. Dorothy Olson passed out paper dolls and Sally Humes gratefully accepted all donations. Someone found a couple of discarded crowns, and the Marchers decided that Jane Arnold and Dorothy Olson should wear them. The March ran smoothly with Police Officers Miss Fletcher, Miss Dwerlkotte, Mr. Tacha, Mr. Barnhart, and Mr. True blood keeping order. The Marchers finally made it, and the group disbanded--filled with memories. 16 DARRELL APPLEBY Student Council, 9; Band, 9; Football, 9- 10; Basketball, 4 yrs. ; Track, 9; Cross Country, 11; Tennis, 10; A Cappella, 4 yrs. ; Boys Glee, 4 yrs. ; C-Club, 11-12, Secretary, 12. It took charge of the annual Homecoming activities, the Win- ter Sports Festival, and also a unique computor dance. Comput- erized dancing appealed to a large portion of the student body, as more than 200 sent in cards. A few participants were shy (or maybe afraid) about showing their numbers; but, nonetheless, many happy matches were made. There was even one brother-sister combination. Other Stuco activities included raising money to send the Kayet- tes' packages to Vietnam and, of course--the magazine sales. Be- sides bringing Rosy to Concordia, the sales enabled CHS to send Susan Hattan to Costa Rica for the AFS summer program. Rosa del Milagro Arce, exchange student from Argentina, flashes her familiar smile. Magazine sales sponsored by Student Coun- cil helped bring Rosy to CHS. 54 Enthusiastic FTA Has Busy Year BACK ROW: G. King, G. Bryant, D. Demanett, B. Girard, L. Gale, R. Yamell, D. Harris, T. The Kansas State Teachers Association made the presentation at a banquet held in Hays. Club members agree that the honor is well-deserved. Active is the key work in describing the Concordia FTA organization this year. The Future Teachers first put their ingenuity to work by preparing faculty floats for the Homecoming Parade. Later, the second an- nual Faculty Farce roared in as a tremend- ous success. With all the money earned from the Farce, the club was able to send 30 members plus sponsors to the State con- vention held at K -State. Members spent the two days energetically campaigning for Mark Reeves for the presidency of the Kansas FTA. Although Mark narrowly missed winning, the club did not come back empty-handed, as Sally Humes received the State FTA scholarship. In addition, each club member was assigned to help a specific teacher throughout the year. On Student Teach Day FTAers got a chance to take over their teachers' classes. The club's final activities included a trip to Bethany College and a joint pizza party and installation of officers. 55 Debate Enjoys Successful Season BACK ROW: S. Hattan, P. Wilson, D. Yarnell, M.
