Clark And Koehn Head District The school year of 1967-68 has been one of many challenges and accomplishments for the stu- dents and faculty’ of Concordia Senior High School. Opportunities are available to every student if only sought, as well as achievements if there is a will- ingness to pay the price of hard work and dedication. It is so easy in our society today for young people to follow the fatalistic philosophy of such groups as the hippies , sit-inners, and militant noncon- formists. It is generally agreed such methods as used by these groups in pursuing their point of view is not acceptable behavior. In view of the disturbing restlessness in our society, I wish to challenge each student of C. H. S. to face their problem with sound and rational thinking prior to action. Our society needs such leaders and welcomes such persons now and in the future. Congratulations to the Hurkaru staff for the work they have done in recording much of the history of 1967-68 in C. H. S. Best wishes for the future. Mr. Koehn is serving his second year as Assistant Superintendent of Schools. The assistant superinten- dent's duties are varied. Most of his duties come under the broad category of curriculum and instruc- tion. He is concerned with the character and quality of instruction in our school district, includ- ing the regular school year and summer school. Our district participates in several projects which involve federal aid. It is his responsibility to submit these projects and evaluate them, as required. Maintaining and improving the instructional quality in the school is a continuing process. It involves a continuous program of curriculum revi- sion, evaluating the objectives of courses and sub- jects offered, and measurement of educational achievement and progress. The assistant superinten- dent assists in planning in-service growth experi- ences for teachers, the adoption of textbooks and educational materials for use in the district, the measurement of pupils' performance through the district-wide testing program and the evaluating of the services of the instructional staff. 4 --Harold M. Clark.

It is one that you will long remember and cherish in years to come. You have given a great effort and reaped a rich harvest of success in scholarship, music, art, debate, forensics, athletics, homemaking, vocational agriculture, and other areas of school endeavor. Many of you have gained area, state, and national recognition which speaks well of you, your instructors, school and community. They are justly proud of you and your adminis- trators are too. We are interested in each of you and your success in life. We wish you seniors greater success as you go forth into the world and for you returning Panthers we hope that you will endeavor to make the most of the educational opportunities that are available to you in your future years at Concordia High. -- Donald Musick The Vice Principal and Activities Director is an administrative position, currently held by Mr. Betts, who holds an MA Degree in Administra- tion and an Administrative Certificate from the State Department of Education. The Vice Principal is directly responsible to the Sr. High Principal and also serves the Jr. High Principal to a lesser degree. The duties of the Vice Principal include scheduling of all activities for Jr. and Sr. High School; schedul- ing school facilities for both Jr. and Sr. High; setting teacher work schedules for activities; hiring and paying officials; helping in Sr. High attendance and discipline. The job is time consuming but is very interest- ing and challenging. Mr. Betts feels the experience gained in this position was instrumental in his qualifying for the Principalship at Oberlin High School, where he will be next year. --Hcrshel Betts To The Junior High During the ten years that I have been principal of Concordia Junior High School many changes have come to our country, city, and schools. Some of these changes have been good; some have been of questionable nature. For those who are leaving CJHS. as well as for those who will replace them, I wish every happiness and success in die years ahead. May I say to each of you, make life worth living for yourself by doing your part in making a better school, a better country, and a better world for those about you. — James P. Post 5
