Starting up the ladder of learning as bewildered freshmen in 1949, the class of '53 chose for leaders Leo LeSage, president; Gene Child, vice-president; Joan LeSage, secretary-treasurer. Miss Thompson, Miss Wycoff, Mr. Brewer, and Mr. Kramer served as sponsors during the year. The social activities of the year consisted of a hayrack ride, dance, and a potluck. In their sophomore year they elected Johnny Davies as president; Joy Bourne, vice-president; Norman Collins, secretary; and Larry Stamm, treasurer, to lead them. Their sponsors were Miss Barekman, Miss Wilkinson, Miss Neilson and Mr. Campbell. The i.-zyrack ride to the twin mounds was a big success. For money making projects they sold football and basketball pencils, magazines, had football and basketball concessions, and the junior play. Under the guidance of their sponsors. Miss Meyer, Mr. Koufmann, Mi ss Ethridge, and Miss Johnson, the class sponsored an all-school party. The climax of the year’s activities was the Junior-Senior banquet and prom. Now as full-fledged seniors, the class of '53 has reached the top of the ladder. This year their officers were Johnny Davies, president; Darrell Zohn, vice- president; Shirley Palmquist, secretory; and Ann Hanson, treasurer. Sponsors included Miss Fletcher, Mr. Bryant, Mr. Van Kooten, Miss Milliken. The St. Pat's assembly, the Junior-Senior Prom, the senior play, and the senior trip to Colorado were high-lights of the year. They sing a yeat deal of semi-classic songs from popular shows, folk songs with modern arrangements, classics, and hymns. In our appreciation of music they studied the Elijah by Mendelssohn. At Christmas time the music department joined the girls physical education department to give a Christmas program. Sharon Meier and Arlan Campbell were their capable soloists and Duaine Sherwood, Norman Wagner, and Eddie Hormel sang the parts of the wise men. A small ensemble from the Mixed Chorus was formed to enter- tain civic organizations. The Mixed Chorus participated in the Religious Emphasis Week service. Senior Homecoming From Colorado Trip Seventy-eight worn-out seniors and eleven sponsors climbed wear- ily from the three busses that pulled up in front of the Concor- dia High School about midnight last night. They had just return- ed from their three-day trip to Colorado. ..... The group left the school build- ing Thursday at about 5:30 p. m., for Chester, Neb., whe e they boarded busses for Colorado Springs. The sponsors tor the trip were Mrs. Lee Smock, Mrs. E. W. Beery, Mrs. Rowland Da- vies, Mr. Idris Regnier, Mr. Cecil J. Child and Mr. Charles Bourne. Ann Milliken. Gwendolyn Fletch- er, Allen Van Kooten and Arley Bryant were the senior class sponsors. The group began to arrive in Chester shortly after 6 o’clock and left Chester right about 6:30. The special chartered busses, owned by A. A. Hartley of Belleville, bounced over the highways into the setting sun. All night the busses roiled on. Some folks tried to sleep, some visited, others sang and watched car lights dart past the bus windows. When Old Man Sun finally peeped up over the plains to the east, the seniors were pulling into Colorado u' Springs. . “Ah, smell that fresh air. says one. “It surely is nice to be able to , stretch out again,” says another. • I The parents, sponsors, boys and ;girls stood on the sidewalk wait- ing for the other busses. Suit- cases were carried into the Acacia Hotel, headquarters for the group while in Colorado. After being Jassigned rooms, the group ate I breakfast. Everything from waf- fles to hamburgers were eaten by the group for this first meaL After breakfast some of the group tried to sleep while others chopped for souvenirs. At noon the group left in their busses for sight-seeing trips. Several mem- bers of the class climbed to top of Seven Falls. The animats at the Cheyenne Mountain zoo were interesting to almost every- one. It was a hard, long climb to the Cave of the Winds, but every- one who made it said it was worth it. The Garden of the Gods and Van Briggle Pottery were also vis- ited. Many of the group went to bed after returning to town. Early Saturday the group be- gan their tour of the Royal Gorge, Canon City, and the Canon City Prison. Sunday noon, soon after church services, the group were on their way back home to Kan- sas. The scenery they had missed Thursday was visible now. It 1 was a sleepy but happy senior who, when stepping from the bus, remarked, Gosh, Tm tired, but hasn’t it been wonderful?” KNAPP, Cori Science Club 4 yrs.; Bond 4 yrs., Mixed Chorus I yr.
