LIMAXING the season with a 91-82 win over Gustavus, Concordia's basketball team continued its upward climb in the Minnesota Inter-collegiate Athletic Conference. A 7-9 MIAC record, combined with a 7-3 non-con- ference total, gave 'the Cobbers their Hrst .500 plus season in many years. The team wound up with 14 wins, 12 losses and sixth place rank in the conference. Under the guidance of coach Sonny Gulsvig and team captain Art Iohn- son the Cobbers proved they deserved every victory. Downing MSC in a pair of games and splitting with NDSC, Concordia took the inter- city championship in stride. The 'Cobbers de- feated Taylor University and Augsburg for the Bemidji Invitational played during the Christ- mas break. urging Upward In Smmlmgf The ironing out of a number of problems takes place during time-out. Before she close of his basketball career at Concordia, Art set Several school records including a 21.8 season Scoring average, 562 total points, 284 rebounds and a high Single game mark of 39 racked up against Augsburg. Rounding out the Hrst five were junior forward Craig Iohnson who averaged 11.6 points per game, senior forward Dave Opheim, an outstanding rebounder and defensive player, and sophomore Guards Roger Adair and Dick Shearer who kept the gffense moving. Reserves Fred Nelson, Gary Carlson, Dennis Iensen, Barry Bowles, and Tom Wolhowe contributed some very fine relief work, particularly in the Gustie game. Together they made a team that continued the upward surge in basketball success at Concordia.
