Hidden by evergreens is the entrance to the English department located in the basement. This structure was built a decade ago. Iust across the bridge is Park Re- gion I-lall, brightly lighted against the night sky. Park Region, com- pleted in 1956, is one of the few student-run dorms in the country. 31

Their -chief stronghold is Brown Hall, where ap- proximately half of them live. Ralph Hoppe, resi- dent head, reigns over the Brown Hall domain. This dorm is built on the unit plan, having 100 two-room suites. A. Scott Beach resides with his eighty upper-class- men in Grose Hall. Occupying South Hall this year are 130 girls, mostly freshmen. Mrs. Schee is their house-mother. Fjelstad Hall, new twenty years ago, still Oilers comfortable rooms for women. Miss Gilbertson is the resident head in Fjelstad. Park Region exempliiies the modern trend in architecture. This structure, built for 228 women, has provoked campus comment with its many windows. Harriet Anderson, a senior, heads Park Region, OIIC of the few student-run college dormitories. Housing only a thousand in our dorms, many stu- dents must live off campus. Fargo-Moorhead students number 146. Some of our ninety married students live in apartment units on campus. K '1. The typical blanket hangs from a Brown Hall window, testifying of its masculine occupants, and their housekeep- lng methods. Brown Hall is the largest dormitory for men on campus.
