Cobber music students have a choice of private -lessons in piano, voice, violin and other instruments. Studies in applied music lead to either a B.A. degree, a B.M., or a public school music major. n Enjoyment of the fruits of this department's work 1S not limited to those within it. A major project of the department was the annual Christmas concert, attended by twelve thousand or more. A branch of the department of music is the Con- servatory in Fargo. P 1 P ANDWICHED between South Hall and Grose Hall, Old Library still swarms with students. Monopolizing Hrst Hoor rooms, the department of business education offers both stenographic and cler- ical courses. Upstairs in the speech department, an addition to the teaching staff points to progress. A new tape re- corder proved very valuable in speech classes and in theatre work. The three-fold department aim is to enable students to teach speech, to speak effectively in any situation, and to appreciate the artistic uses of speech. These purposes are achieved through practice. The lineup in business education is comprised of DuWain Fagerstrom, Miss Vilera Gedstad, Miss Alma Opdahl and Ivan Larson, depart- ment head. 4 . 9 Q Co.lQg VCIY 311 of prit instruy H BA. u Enju 15 DOI

Home Economics motive in bvmenmfeing ITH an eye on the future, home eco- nomics majors and minors practice their skills in the food and clothing labs under careful supervision. After weekly lectures on third Hoor of the home ec. building the girls try out their theories on button holes and baking powder biscuits. Supplementary studies include color and design, textile painting, in- terior decoration, health and child care. Each major in the department must pass a final practical test by meeting the rigid requirements of residence in the home management house for six weeks. These girls then graduate with a B.S. degree and are qualified to teach, do extension work or be- gin their own home man agement. A turnover of laundresses, maids, cooks and hostesses occurs frequently as each home economic major takes her turn in the homemanagement house, supervised by Miss Kruger. 3 . t , i r E' H1 l 1 Returning after summer study in Alaska, Dorothea Nevramon rejoined Iulia Brekke, Florence Kruger and Alice Polikowsky in teaching home ec. lilsofcwls in if lt, largf fifolw 0 'alAud1I0fll fl . 503 game of 15 1 P ical es ditorit ball cr 7,000 A SUP, Q? .
