Ylvisaker Library invites stu- dents to study in pleasant surroundings and offers a choice of 50,000 volumes for our perusal. Library Acclaimed 6 Avcbifcczis E POINT with 'pride to the Carl B. Yl- visaker Library completed in February 1956, and put to immediate use by our students. A year later Sovik, Mathre and Associates received nationwide recognition for constructing this building. Cobbers seldom think of the award given by the Minnesota Society of the American Instiute of Architects but rather recognize it as a practical, pleasant place for study and research. Registration always brings a boom in business at the bookstore. This year's increased stock makes the bookstore a more pleasant place in which to browze. Popularity of the post office is proved by a daily scrimmage for mail. Health service is offered by two nurses and a local doctor. Our nurses were seldom separated from their thermometers and a seemingly unlimited supply of ASA tablets when the flu epidemic threatened. Mrs. Monson assists him in the Placement Bureau. 16 REATED last August, the Oliice of Special Services is unknown to many students. Nonetheless it is the hub of several supplementary projects. As director of special services, Mr. Carl Narveson ar- ranges for the Artist Course and Lecture Series. He furnishes free films each Sunday and movies, such as Henry V and All Quiet on the Western Frontf' for our weekend evening enjoyment. Supervising the new audio-visual aids program, he offers opportunity to learn how to operate movie projectors, mimeographs, etc. Seniors suddenly be- come aware of the Placement Bureau, another serv- ice with headquarters in this oHice, when they be- gin considering post-graduation employment. Con- cordia's placement record is recognized as outstand- ing. Attracting and choosing young people to make up our Cobber student body is an unending process carried on by Dean Rendahl and his staff in the Of- Hce of Admissions. Constantly revising their grow- ing Hles and mailing lists, Mrs. Rendahl and Mrs. Sanden supervise a bevy of parttimc secretaries. Actual applications from prospective students are passed on to administrators for approval. Our dean of admissions announced enrollment of 1504, an- other record year.
