'942 THE SENIOR CLASS HISTORY September of 1938 found 15 aspiring enrollers as members of the freshmen class at C.T.H.S. feeling slightly bashful but very hopeful we started our career as freshies in the struggle for knowledge. As usual after initiation we immerged ready for anything. However fate was kind to us and under the tutelage of the faculty-Smith-Stone-Rayl-Pope we came through and tightened our belts for round two. Our freshman class officers were: President-Juninr Clarkg Secretary-Alene Hanlong Treasurer-Betty Stroup. As .Sophomores we began to develop into ruddy seamen and were able to eke 'out the crew engaged in extracurricular activities. Donating material to both boys and girls basket- ball teams we' began to feel that we had come into our own. Mr. Stone left us this year and was replaced by I-'Lr. McGarvey. One member left our fold at mid-term leaving 13 but not unlucky classmated to finish our Sophomore year. , Round three coming up. Gaining experience courage and fighting strength we were ready to tackle the third milestone in our high school journey. As class officers we chose: President-John Gaahamg Secretary-Treasurer-Junior Clark. Sending forth valuable representatives to the basketball teams and giving a notable account of ourselves when- ever called upon we rowed straight ahead to the last drink from the cup of knowledge. Mrs. Rayl was replaced by Miss Craig. Seniors!! Yes this is our year. Joined by recruits from North Washington we pre- sented a strong united front ready to push ahead to our goal-graduation. As the Annex goes to press we know that in a short time we will be leaving our Alma Mater. We are sorry to go for pleasant memories lie behind. Memories of good times enjoyed on the way ' and friendships that were made all make us hesitate to leave our underolassmen. We wish to extend our thanks to the faculty for making our voyage pleasant and for extending a helping hand in time of trouble. We hope that you under classmen will have as pleasant a trip as we did and now Seniors to you Good luck and bon voyage. We have now gotten acquainted and are able to go right ahead with the rest of the students. We also have had good cooperation and taken part in all school activities and assemblies. The class consisted of 1.2 pipils at the first of the year. We lost four and gained three which leaves us a total of Ll at the present. Joe Einith and Harry Barwell quit, and Gloria Welling and Unice Knight moved to some other school. We gained Tom Peth from Annisville, Jennie Costa from West Sunbury, and just lately Dorothy Everly from Pittsburgh. About the third week of school, we elected class officers. The returns told us that the President was Mary Lou Hovisg Vice President was I-fred Mcliinneyg Secretary- Theasurer was Reed Campbell. Carl Campbell was elected for the Athletic Council. We had a Freshmen initiation day, as usual. Of course we were very bashful and embarrassed but we pulled through the day all right. There was also a Freshmen party that night. Some of us were so scared we could hardly do our share but the audience had fun out of it, even tho' we didn't. Did You? After the party, everyone went on a Treasure Hunt. Following this we all came back to the school house for a weiner roast. We may by called green horns but we hope, next year, we can feel at home, and I'm sure we won't be so bashful or backward. The most of the boys were very faithful in coming to practiceA ' This year was the first. year for our new coach. Mr. Grine did some very good coaching, but because of the opponents having more and better experienced players, we didn't win very many ganes. Most of the players had fun and all were interested. 'Next year Mr. Grihe expects to have a much better team. A ' Robert Royle GIRL ' S BASKETBALL The girls of Concord were all eager for the 41-1,2 season to begin. The season extended from the first of November through February. ,An eager group of ten girls turned out for the first practice. Some new girls joined the force and some of the pioneers lost interest and dropped it. Even though the girls lost most of the games, .they continued to prove their school spirit by fighting their hardest throughout the year. Mr. Grine, our new coach was very good to the girls and tried to make them good sports even if it meant losing a game. We thoroughly enjoyed the season and hope for better years in the future. The Senior girls were champions in the girls league and the Jlmior boys took the lead in the boys league. These winners then played the tie-off. Naturally the boys won, but we had a lot of fun trying to beat them. BASKETBALL Later in the school year when the weather was too bad to stay out we started a basketball tournament. It proved to be good entertainment for a while, but some, both boys and girls, were too bashful to go out on the floor, so it finally fell through. Of the games that were played the Seniors again lead in the glrl's league and the Juniors in the boy's league. Eleanor Stroup UCAUGHT IN THE DRAFT' This year, our faculty underwent a change.
