CLASS COLOR: Crimson and Silver CLASS FLOWER: White Rose A, ' We, the class of '55, chose as our class sponsor, Mr. Myers, who worked diligently with us for all four years. A paper drive was our means of making money when we were freshmen, as sophomores we sold concessions at our home games. The beginning of our junior year was opened by a magazine campaign, which broke all records of previous yearsg top salesmen were Lloyd Schrock and Wendell Shaffer. November of 1953 the much awaited class rings arrived. Our Junior Class play, Head First , was really great because all the students took an interestg also we sponsored the annual skating parties as a means of income. To top off our junior year we gave the seniors a banquet and dance at South Shore Inn, Lake Wawasee. As seniors we have given our last class play, I'm a Family Crisis , which was a success both dramatically and financially. At this writing we are all looking forward with much anticipation to class night, junior-senior banquet, class trip, baccalaureate, and commencement. Nineteen years later the band under the direction of Paul Gibson has 71 members. During this time they have won 27 first division ratings. Each year Concord competes for honors with other schools of comparable size in district and state contests. For the last 3 years Conco,rd has entered the BB class competing against larger schools. Last year the Concord Band won a first in the district contest at Angola and a second in the state contest at Knox. This year the band gave a winter concert and a spring concert for the public. The band marched at the Mermaid Festival in North Webster, at Riverview in Chicago, at the county Health Unit Parade in Elkhart, at the Christmas parade in Elkhart, and played at 5 basketball games. .93andS', Charlene Yoder Jean Everest Steve Clover Ronnie Neher Bill Lantz Donald Rinehart The 1955 C0rlCOI'dial'1 Page Seventy-Five Page Seventy - Six ..'73'zaoo, CORNETS: Third, G. 'Uwwitq Press Time! And here is the way our varsity stands now. The record is 10 wins and 9 losses with two games yet to play. Here is a list of our enemies and how they fared with the Minutemen. Wakarusa lost one to us and won one from us, by a score of 60 to 51. Bremen gave Concord loafers the worst defeat of the year '70 to 38. Concord suddenly became of the living, outrunning and outplaying J' imtown to win 55 to 53. At this writing the Minutemen will play J imtown once more in what will probably be a hard battle. Syracuse was ahead at the end of three quarters, but the awakened Minutemen came through to win 46 to 39. Milford defeated us in a fairly close game 66 to 63. New Paris beat us early and late in the season by scores of 55 to 54 and 53 to 46. Concord played Middlebury three times and came out with 2 victories and a loss. We won early in the season and in tourney by 50 to 40 and 62 to 56. They were defeated 70 to 63. Nappanee gave us a severe beating, 86 to 64. With Jefferson it was a sad story, After beating them 64 to 57 they beat us in the final game of the county tourney play 83 to 61. We gave Shipshewana a good licking by winning easily, 62 to 44. We beat Bristol twice by scores of 67 to 47 and 60 to 52 fcounty tourneyj, Q Concord played rather slowly until the third quarter then went ahead only to lose to Goshen 59 to 56. Concord beat Millersburg 69 to 63 after leading all the way. At this writing Concord's leading scorer is Frank Sharkey with 275 points. Keith Stickle has the best free throw percentage up to now with 69 percent. The 1955 Concordian Page Eighty-F ive BOB LOVEIOY 6' 3 Junior This boy's tip-ins and rebound- ing make him a star player long before his senior year. His po- sition is center. RONNIE OVERHOLSER GUARD 5' 9 Senior Ronnie has always worked hard at his position and is a valuable player. Many times Ronnie has proved a good shot when needed. 'U1vw11y, 1954-55 LAEL LDNG 6'2 Senior This lanky starting forward is one of the best shots on the team, and a good man on the backboard. FRANK SHARKEY 6'0 Senior Frank, who is the starting for- ward of the team, is also the most versatile player. Frank is always good for a high point average. DALE LOVE 5' 10 Senior Dale is one of the hardest dri- ving guards Concord has ever had and a very good rebounder for his size. Page Eighty-Six The 1955 Concordian 'Uwwitg 1954-55 LARRY SHAUM 5' 11 Iunior Larry is a hard rebounder and a good prospect for next year's varsity. WENDELL SHAFFER 5' 5 Senior We ndy is very fast, a hard driver, and a tricky passer. MIKE CRIPE KEITH STICKLE 5' 8 Junior K e ith is a very good dribbler with a very fine set shot. FRANK BARRICK 5' 8 Senior Frank is an excellent play maker who can shoot from al most any position. 6' Junior Mike started the year as a second team member, but his heighth and baskets soon made him varsity material. FRONT ROW: Kermit Brown, Roger Weaver, Robert Yoder, Jim Selner, Robert Gaff, Dave Reed. zcond .ham The Second team enjoyed a very good season this year. At this time they have a total record of 15 and 3. They lost only to Millersburg and Nappanee, Millersburg twice. Although they were able to accumulate a fine record, they were not quite able to come across with the County Tourney. Up until the time of the tourney they had won 13 of 15 games. Then for the second time they were stopped by Millersburg. Mike Cripe, who has been the spark plug of the team this year, also was used many times on the Varsity. Mike set a new second team record this year by scoring 28 points in one game against New Paris. The old record was 23. Mike also stands a good chance of setting a new total points scoring record, Bob Gaff, Jim Selner, and Bill Rapp were the boys who made up the remainder of the score most of the time. This, without a doubt, was one of the finest second teams we have ever had. Shea .Zeam As the close of another basketball season nears the end, the freshman team has compiled an under par record of two wins against seven losses. The first game went to Concord over Wakarusa by a score of 35 to 33. In February Wakarusa will travel to Dimlap for a second try. Concord fell to the Nappanee frosh, by a score of 43 to 36. The Naps weren't to be denied as they overran the Minutemen by a 44 to 33 win at their second try. Next the Green and White traveled to New Paris. Concord once again became the losing victim by a margin of 47 to 33. Later on the Mc Cuenmen showed some improve- ment but New Paris still showed too much power as our five bowed to a slim margin of 43 to 37. J imtown next took to the road but Concord was victorious by a slight margin of 39 to 35. Later our Greenbacks tried for a second win over J imtown but was found on the short end by a low score of 28 to 24. Concord was entertained by Goshen as we suffered our worst defeat of the year by a score of 52 to 20 beating. As our team rolled along on its winless trail they fell victims to the Madison Panthers. The result was Concord's seventh defeat, a 40 to 19 whitewashing. At this writing the books show Lowell Sanders in the lead for total points with a respectable 64 point effort. John Stauffer is a close second with 60 markers. It is a workland of the seniors as well as a meeting room, powder room and a conversational room. Back seven years ago there were thirteen mem- bers in the Journalism classy now it is tripled. Since the class has grown, we have had to get more equip- ment. The room now has four typewriters, two mimeo- scopes, a big desk, and a mimeograph. Each and every student that has been a part of this Press Room, will, in his heart, hold many mem- ories of the past year.
