NHS Recognizes Conant's Best The National Honor Society of Secondary Schools granted the Gerald A. McElroy Chapter of the Conant High School on the 25th day of January, 1965. Membership is limited to a small percentage of juniors and seniors who exemplify the four National ideas of Character, Scholarship, Leadership, and Ser- vice to the highest degree. The faculty committee is always most happy to be a part of the screening process. The final selections were based on the overall pursuit of excellence attained between the ultimate in t'ideaIs and performance. At Conant, we believe that no honor or reponsibi- lity conferred by our high school excels that repre- sented by the National Honor Soceity. lt represents the fundamental objectives for which schools are instituted and gives recognition to those who have attained most nearly the desired ends. Other honors at the diposal of our school are only partial in the sense that they recognize specialized ability, skill, or talent: but this Society looks upon education as a total product measured by the four dimensions of life, so capably pursued by these young people. President James Niewiara was astonished at being elected President in the fall, and found himself with the capable asssitence of Kari Smith as Vice Presi- dent and Maria Pica as Secretary. With the always fashionable Mr. Jan Premo as their Faculty Sponsor, they embarked on a enjoyable and memorable year in NHS. Setting up for Homecoming, the Triviafest Holi- day Party, and the induction ceremony were among the many memories they will all have. One Nlore Night June 6, 1986, was a night we will all fondly remember. It was a night that took months to plan and hours fat least!J to get ready for. Who will forget the hundreds of dollars spent, the wonderful dinner music, or the fine cuisine we were served? For months before Prom we were worried about key chain favors and a disc jockey, but as the night approached we put those worries behind us. Now we were more concerned about making sure we sat with our friends during dinner and how Post Prom would turn out. As the night went on we found nothing to be concerned about. We all went crazy on the dance floor as the night slowly did turn into that special night we all dreamed of. We would like to thank all of you for making our night even more unforgettable by electing us as your Prom King and Queen. lt's something we didn't expect, but were proud to accept. Best of luck to all of you in the future. Thanks again for four special years-hope to see you in ten. Love, Maria Pica and Michael Nanfria 38lProm li if M -is
