Creature Creeps Form Family After the first couple weeks of rehearsals, our very bizzare group of cast members began to ques- tion our comedic talent. The script was hilarious, but ioke after joke with no audience there to laugh was like a kick in the stomach with every silent punchline. Most of us had little or no experience, and the fact that this show would go on no matter what, scared us to death. We consisted of a mad scientist and his helper, his wife and her sisters, his dizzy daughter, her college roommate, her fiance', a frantic maid, and a mysteri- ous creature in the cellar. The unorganization of the plot seemed to coincide with our own confusion. We suddenly realized that alone, each of us meant noth- ing. No one was better than anyone else, and without a group effort, we feared our ultimate failure. Consequently, we banned together and achieved something no other cast could ever come close to accomplishing. We became a true family. A creepy, Transalvanian one at that. When the curtain opened on opening night and we heard that magnificent audience scream, all our fears were put behind us as we went on to perform for the biggest audience for a comedy in Conant's history. Every line merited an uproar of laughter and applause. It overwhelmed us that we could make so many people happy and have so much fun doing it. I can't thank the cast and crew enough for such an incredible Senior year. The Drama department has given me a great sense of worth, along with some of the very best friends anyone could ever want. I am extremely jealous of all the future Cougars who will continue to shine on the Conant stage. It is a feeling like no otherg one which can never be forgotten. tClockwise-right! NHS Recognizes Conant's Best The National Honor Society of Secondary Schools granted the Gerald A. McElroy Chapter of the Conant High School on the 25th day of January, 1965. Membership is limited to a small percentage of juniors and seniors who exemplify the four National ideas of Character, Scholarship, Leadership, and Ser- vice to the highest degree. The faculty committee is always most happy to be a part of the screening process. The final selections were based on the overall pursuit of excellence attained between the ultimate in t'ideaIs and performance. At Conant, we believe that no honor or reponsibi- lity conferred by our high school excels that repre- sented by the National Honor Soceity. lt represents the fundamental objectives for which schools are instituted and gives recognition to those who have attained most nearly the desired ends. Other honors at the diposal of our school are only partial in the sense that they recognize specialized ability, skill, or talent: but this Society looks upon education as a total product measured by the four dimensions of life, so capably pursued by these young people. President James Niewiara was astonished at being elected President in the fall, and found himself with the capable asssitence of Kari Smith as Vice Presi- dent and Maria Pica as Secretary. With the always fashionable Mr. Jan Premo as their Faculty Sponsor, they embarked on a enjoyable and memorable year in NHS. Setting up for Homecoming, the Triviafest Holi- day Party, and the induction ceremony were among the many memories they will all have.
