Barbara Anderson Sue Ellen Cleary Martha Goughnour Mary Ellen Latoret Ruth MacDonald New Third Year Brings Biggest Changes The most significant change in the English Depart- ment this year was the switch to a tull-year curricu- lum tor iuniors. ln addition, some students chose to combine their History and English requirements through American Studies, a two-hour course taught by both history and English teachers. New state guidelines tor college entrance requirements were telt in all departments. Conant and 211 however, already require tour years ot English for graduation. Shaping Up A physical education class is a time for sports and games, for the dance, swimming, stunts, and tum- bling. These are all activities you might like to do for fun in your free time. But physical education is more than just fun. It is also a time for learning. Perhaps you already know how to shoot baskets or dribble a soccer ball. But basketball and soccer will be even more lun as you improve your shooting and kicking ability. How about tennis? Or badmin- ton? Do you know how to allemand left and swing your partner when the crowd wants to square dance? Can you do a backward roll or a hand stand? Or a front dive that cuts the water without a splash? You can learn how to do things like these in physical education. As you improve your old skills and add new ones to the list, you will want to learn more about the fine points of the games you play. This knowledge will take you from being a beginner to a respected opponent. You will have a chance to learn this in physical education, but it will take work and practice as well as play. 1441 P.E.
