Knowledge For The Future The Business Education Department is preparing students for business employment, offers business opportunities for the personal use ol students, and aids in the preparation of college-bound students for careers in accounting and other areas ot business administration. It also gives guidance to students interested in the many opportunities available in the business world. At one point or another, Conant students were required to take Consumer Education which teaches basic tax help and banking needs. The Best Of '86 Some ofthe accomplishments and highlights From the 1985-86 school year were the Boy's Gymnastics Team taking second in the State, along with the Boy's Cross Country Team finishing third. Other top achievements were letf Block being one of the 1986 National Merit Finalist, and this year there were sixty-four Illinois State Scholars. During Chemical Awareness Week, Conant was visited by Lt. Governor George Ryan and Representa- tives of the World Champion Chicago Bears. Conant was the top school our of fourty-five area schools in fundraising for M.S. a Student Council sponsored event. Both newspaper CCrierJ and yearbook tConaviteD received first place ratings from the American Scho- lastic Press Association, which is a national rating organization. There was peak enrollment this year with over 2,500 students, and all departments were involved with maior revisions of educational objectives and review of existing programs. The faculty honored students at NHS and Honors Convocation, they shared their talents with students at Spring Fair, competed with them at Spring Fling, and taught over 1,480 class periods of study. Robert Grisanzio Bruce Hildabrand Sciences Are An Elite Class Conant's Science Department offers a variety of courses dealing with different aspects of the subject. The student is offered subjects from basic Freshman Biology to Senior Advanced Biology. Other courses include your physical sciences such as: Chemistry and Physics, both of which help greatly on your College Entrance Exams. The Science Department has set specific goals to encourage the serious science student to set for himself as well as with his class. These goals are: use methods of science to solve problems and improve the students ability to think critically. With these goals in mind, the science teacher makes the classes interesting, enjoyable, and most ot all, worthwhile. Conant's Social Science Department offers many subjects on learning cultures and attitudes from people around the world, from the past to the pre- sent. The ccurses range from psychology to history. They offer an accelerated program which students can enter as a freshman and can continue with their Senior year, which can obtain them college credits. The Social Science Department at Conant is un- precedented throughout the District, the student can only benefit from the programs offered.
