District 211: ln Partnership With The Community Township High School District 211 began in 1875 as a small farmtown school district with an enroll- ment well under 100 students. Now it has grown to include five high schools serving more than 12,000 students. As an organization responsible to the com- munity, District 211 has always strived to do its best to benefit residents and to provide quality education for its young people. We take pride in knowing that we are among the many local organizations which, working together, help maintain wholesome, desir- able communities in which to live. In a recent North Central Association evaluation, school evaluators wrote that District 211 has a positive public image and is fortunate to have strong community support as evidenced gy its record of support for bond issues and other school refer- enda. Evaluators also praised the many parents who are involved in school booster clubs. The support and hard work of these dedicated individuals is evident at each school. Parents and community support groups conduct fund-raising activities for scholarships as well as new equipment for schools. They also foster school and community pride and spirit by sponsoring activities - such as carnivals and craft fairs - to benefit students, noted an evalutor. Members of parent clubs meet regularly with school principals to discuss school needs and parent concerns. Evaluators agreed that students, staff, adminis- trators and residents can be proud of their schools, district standards, curriculum, student achievements and community support. In fact, one evaluator said that a District 211 school is where we all would like to send our own children. tAboveJ The Board of Education consists of seven members who are elected on a rotating basis for three-year terms. Township High School District 211 operates the largest district-owned bus fleet in Illinois. The buses travel more than 6,400 miles each day.
