COMMANDI G OFFICER ARCHER . MACY JR. Commander Archer M. Macy, Jr. United States Navy Commander Macy was raised in Virginia and enlisted in the US Navy in 1972. Following basic training and Quartermaster A School he served onboard USS Severn CAO-613 and USS JOHN F. KENNEDY CCV-673. He was selected for the Naval Enlisted Scientific Education Prog-ram, and graduated from the University of Washington in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics. Commander Macy was then assigned as Communications and Elec- tronics Material Officer, and subsequently as Damage Control Assis- tant, onboard USS Jesse L. Brown CFF-1089. He was next assigned to the Naval Postgraduate School' in Monterey, CA where he received a Masters Degree in Aeronautical Engineering and a Subspecialty Code as a Weapons Systems Engineer. Commander Macy completed the Surface Warfare Department Head course, then served as Weapons Officer on USS Thomas C. Hart KFF-10923. He was next assigned as First Lieutenant onboard USS LaSalle CAGF-35, flagship of the Commander, Middle East Force in the Persian Gulf, and also served as Force Weapons Offi- cer for the Middle East Force. Subsequently he served as a Flight Test Manager for Tomahawk cruise missiles in the Program Executive Of- fice for Cruise Missiles and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. Commander Macy next served as Executive Officer on USS David R. Ray CDD-9715, then attended the senior curriculum of the Naval War College in Newport, RI, from which he received a Masters Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies in 1993. After the Naval War College Commander Macy was assigned as the Requirements Officer for Ship Self-Defense Systems and Sensors and for Special Programs in the Theater Air Defense Branch, on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations. Commander Macy assumed command of USS Comte De Grasse CDD-9743 in July of 1996. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal CThird Awardb, and the Navy Achieve- ment Medal. qi If,
