SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY As I s1t 1n my 1solated cell awaltlng deportatlon to my natlve planet Mars I fondly remember the years I spent at C P H S I shall never forget the rouslng welcome accorded me by Nlhll Benuche and h1s famous all glrl Dr1ll Team at our class reun1on of 1968 Sen1or members of the team were Yvonne Berry Joyce Koon Pat CCurt1s1 Cordes and MaryAnn Fortuna Just then I happened to notlce Marljane Bergers and Judy Bellows rush 1nto the new gym bu1ld1ng carrylng a dlsplay of shrunken heads acqulred on a recent tr1p to the Amazon jungles Upon entermg the bu1ld1ng I saw that the Sen1or Carnlval of 1968 was 1n full swlng and well prepared by the Senlors Ken Gelderbloom the world s smallest glant and D1ck Howlett world s tallest mldget were on hand to add to the excltement Off 1n one corner I saw Cynthla CG1bsonJ Humphrey leadlng Larry fHumphreyD Jackle Peters and Dan VanSoest 1n a h1lar1ous verslon of Jallblrd Rock an old EIVIS tune Notlclng a Freshman sell1ng cop1es of the Tatler I1mmed1ately procured one by cleverly d1vert1ng h1s attentlon and then copp1ng one The front page of th1s lssue devoted to the old grads of 58 carr1ed a huge headhne statlng that Professor Patrlck Fletcher s Theory of Unrelatxvlty had made dehydratlon of water posslble Immed1ately below thls was a full color portralt of Pat Prltchard who was chosen Mlss Unlverse ln Parts last week I was almost astounded at the news that J1m McCullough J1m Zarbock and Clyde Peacock had successfully landed on the moon The flrst thlng they dlscovered was a weather ed copy of Jules Verne s From the Earth to the Moon The sports sectlon featured an artlcle about Rod Denhart the Llvls I resley of Comstock Park who recently made track hlstory by pole vaultmg 31 feet uslng a 20 foot pole Jlm McKellar cheered on by the Mrs Ruth COele7 McKellar had rneanwhlle set a new record for the 100 yard dash and broad Jump Also mentloned ln the feature artlcles was the run down of scores as Lynn Rosely had won the Davls Cup matches at Melbourne Com1ng to the classlfled sectlon I saw that many of my old classmates had gone far ln the buslness world Gerald Clapp s School of The Dance was featur mg lnstructxons 1n slow waltzes Dave Wler s Haberdashery was hav1ng a grand openlng Rosemary Bek1ns Judy Ranck and Dorothy Cook offered 6 week courses at thelr secretarlal school and J1m McFarland and Arn1e VanHorn advert1sed re duced prlces at the1r reduclng cl1n1c I f1n1shed the paper and carefully put It away for future readlng when I bumped 1nto Larry Rector talent scout for the Detro1t T1gers thls year s World Serles contenders Larry lnformed me that Lou1s Sab1n had perfected a new and mgemous method of removmg ut1l1ty poles for the power company but the exact process 1S st1ll a secret In the heart of downtown Comstockl ark wh1ch had grown cons1derably by Ih1S t1me I entered an auto accessorles store operated by M1ke Sldlauskas wherel notlced N1ck F1nk buymg parts for some of h1s ant1que cars wh1ch form the largest collectlon 1n the state Over ln a far corner a loud argument was ln progress and I was surprlsed to see that Ga1lVerslu1s saleswoman for the new 1968 Ka1ser was debatlng the merlts of dual carburetlon wlth Ro'1Verner who races motor scooters at Indlanapolls J1m K1tler IS h1s chlef mechamc I belleve After leavlng M1ke s place I was just crosslng the street when two cars 1968 Pontlac and a 1967 Olds shot by nearly removmg my humble person from the earth Seelng that lt was only Bob Mlller raclng the Drakes J1m and Joyce CHoff man! I contlnued across but was nearly run down agaln when a state pollce squad car drlven by Gary Hachrnuth roared by 1n pursu1t of the mad ones I later asked Loretta Slagel and Barbara Shlnn owners of a lad1es shop 1n the v1c1n1ty the outcome of the chase They mformed me that the offenders had been apprehended and would appear before Judge Larry Tlegema 1n the rnornmg My tlme was gettlng short so I wandered onto the new C P H S athletlc f1eld where Coach Bucky Cordes and h1s asslstant Larry Stow1tts were worklng out the track team Bucky d1rected me to the Relaxatlon Room a new snack bar operated by George Plerce and Dave Fuhrmann where Itensely watched the out come of the Powder Puff Derby on the televlslon d1rect from the Speedrome Judy Idzlak won th1s event wh1le Dennls Weaver took the 200 lap feature drxvmg a 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 . . . . . . w ' - ' 4: 1 - 1 ' 11 ' sa l - 11 1 1 . . . . .
