Under the leadership of President, Cheryl Chrisman, the Student Council, working closely with the Administration worked at revising the Student Hand Book and bring it up to date. The fruits of this labor will be apparent to students in the 62-64 school year. Progress was also made on an improved educational assembly program in the future. A school project sponsored by the Council was the establishing of a fund to bring an exchange stu- dent to the Comstock High School. BACK ROW: Lauren Pickett, Adviser, Martin Schuiteboer, Treasurer. Membership in the club is open to any Spanish student who has taken, or is taking Spanish in the high school. The club is indeed fortunate in having for its adviser Mrs. Alta Richmond, who brings her own fine background in study and travel to enrich the course content as well as stimulate an active interest in the study of Latin America. Below are some shots of the big social event of the school year for Los Matadores, their annual banquet, held in April. Fiesta This is Bosa Nova? Hah, Toro! The Corral Staff has labored long and hard to compile this pictorial record of the school year '62-'63. Taking pictures, soliciting advertising, writing copy, selling and finally distributing this the 1963 Corral Kaledioscope. Our labors will not have been in vain if in future years this annual will recall for you the best years of your life in high school. The staff wishes to thank everyone whose efforts and cooperation made this book possible . . . The Staff Cheryl has her say REMARKABLE INCIDENT AT CARSON’S CORNER Adapted for the stage from a television drama, this story was well received by the Comstock audience. The play involves the death of a small child and the attempt of the townspeople whom they charge failed to make the necessary repairs which could have prevented the accident. The play is a psychological study of how people try to relieve their own consciences by finding a fall-guy. In the end, they come to realize that the death of the child must be shared by all. All's well that ends well A PLAY’S THE THING The school's two plays were handled this year by a new- comer to the staff at Comstock high school. Mrs. Susan Pyne brought to the stage at Comstock high school a new enthusiasm for the stage and drama. Mrs. Pyne departed from the usual mystery-comedy routine to bring two good dramas to Comstock audiences. OUR TOWN This drama, written by Thornton Wilder, is unique in several aspects: It has no stage settings. It has no props and all of the stage business is done in pantomine. A great deal in this play as you might guess depends on the imagination of the audience and the ability of the Stage Manager to 'set the scene.' The story involves the cycle of life in a little mid-west town called Grover's Corners. Birth, Death, Courtship, Marriage Joys and Sorrows are all reflected in the faces of the people of 'Our Town.' We of the Corral deeply regret that we were unable to obtain any pictures of the play and cast, but due to a mix up in scheduling we were unable to secure the services of a photographer the nights of the performances. Pat Sheppardson looks on as Candy Biester applies makeup in preparation for 'Our Town.' 55 JR.-SENIOR BANQUET AND This year the annual Junior-Senior Ban- quet and Prom was held at the Southgate Inn. The banquet had baked ham as its feature, topped off by cookies and sherbert. Following the banquet, the combo of Dana Derhammer provided music for danc- ing as the couples swirled to a Moonlight Serenade. ” 56 NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY BACK ROW: K. Thompson, C. Chrisman, J. The purpose of this organization is to foster and encourage these qualities among all students. Thursday, February 21, the Comstock cafeteria was the scene of the annual Honors Award banquet. At this time six new candidates for membership were tapped. The PTA at the same time awarded pins to all those who made the semester honor roll. Tapping . . . Pinning . . . With a little luck, the record could easily have been 9 wins and 8 losses, but the Colts were hampered all season long by a lack of height. VARSITY SQUAD SENIORS The Varsity Cheerleaders, this year under the guidance of Miss Nancy Moran have had a busy school year, building and maintaining the fine school spirit demonstrated by the student body. Building enthusiasm and school spirit is no easy task, but the girls have put in long hours of practice to make our good sportsmanship and spirit even better. Three varsity members of next years squad will attend a summer workshop during the summer of 63 to learn new stunts and skits for the coming school year. Reserves L. DeHollander N. Walters B. Harmon J. Sherman P. Stokes H. Whitby TENNIS Tennis Captain James Auvil The tennis team didn’t fare too well this season, though some of the individual performers turned in sterling performances . The squad is losing but three seniors and so it is hoped that next year the tale will be different. Coach Osmer’s golf squad will lose only one senior from a team that placed second in the KVA golf tournament. Golf has only been a varsity sport for three years at Comstock and Coach Osmer has built a fine squad. BACK ROW: J. Cook, M. Knapp, B. Roll, J. Auvil, G. Allen, Coach Kenneth Adams. KNEELING: R.
