Varsity Basketball An action-packed season, during which the Colt five compiled an 8-8 win-loss record, got underway in November when U-High dumped the Colts, 58-19. In spite of the poor start however, the team made great strides in improvement as the season wore on. In regular season play, the Colts wound up by tromping Gales - burg-Augusta on the home court 82-68, with 37 of the points contributed by plucky Junior guard DaWayne Heath. Another season highlight was the upset victory over Paw Paw, 59-56. Heath, with his 14 point average per game, led the way while regulars John Roundhouse and Gary Meints, seniors, junior Larry Dopp, and freshman Steve Morford rounded out the team which afforded Comstock basketball fans a great many thrills. Coach Tom Lutz was happy with the team's .500 record, the best for the Colts in nearly 6 years, and has hopes for stretching it even farther next year. The trip that the class chose was a boat cruise from Chicago to Detroit via the Great Lakes and Mackinac Island on May 31 and June 1 and 2. The class sold candy, Christmas cards, magazines, and ran the concession stand at basketball and football games to help raise the money. A Junior Class play in 1960 and the Senior Class play presented in 1961 were two of the many money raising projects the class sponsored. This year the seniors have charge of school supply sales, and have sponsored many dances and canteens throughout the past four years.
