In doing this she has shown us that hard work is the way to success and that respect is the way to friendship. Our only regret is that students in the future will not have the advantages that we have had from her teachings. As the Beep, Beep, of the satellite fades in the distance, and the moon slowly comes closer to our world, we begin to ask ourselves, Where and why are we going? It is in a time like this that clear thinking is needed and the young people, the future leaders, are the group who must furnish us the proper guideposts. You graduates are a part of that group, and we hope that you have received the proper help; the help that will enable you to make decisions which will lead us to the right path, —the path that will assure all nations, races and creeds of equal opportunity and peaceful existence. The job we give you is tremendous! The help we have tried to give is minute. Now we hope and pray that your efforts will meet with more success than our work has in the past. And I say now, because the chance may not come again— Thank you, B. J. Murrey Graduates of 1959, you have been subjected to a great deal of knowledge in the past thirteen years. What portion of this knowledge you have taken has been to a great extent up to you. How much of this you use in the future will once again be up to you. What you do, what you become will be your responsi- bility. Each year that passes you will find greater responsi- bilities forced upon you. These will come gradually enough so that you can handle them without undue fear. You will always be answering the question, Where to? What next? ; from these questions there is no escape. However, how you answer them will determine the success with which you pass your life. With an optimistic view, we of the school wish you well and offer our services, should you ever need them. D. English and Latin j R S r Aii iLriK OCttt In nineteen hundred fifty-five. It was so long ago. The school was besieged by Freshmen, And never went so low. The teachers soon were rattled. The Seniors soon were bored. The principal was bothered. And the books were quickly floored Some students stayed in school, Others could not be found; But soon the year was over With the majority still around. As Sophomores we worked a bit harder, But accomplished very little. We really were a very fine group Who still had time to fiddle. Our problems grew as Juniors, We thought of them as a game, But when we tried to solve them. The harder they became. We are now the upperclassmen, The class of fifty-nine. SEASON’S HIGHLIGHTS The football season for 1958 started out with a bang, and ended quite well but the games between the first and last were a lost cause. In the season opener with Pennfield, the Colts, feeling pretty frisky held their opponents scoreless, winning the game 19-0. For the rest of the season, until the last game, the Colts were penned up by all opponents. All the boys played well, but if one star was to be picked out it would probably be Corky Elliot, whose outstanding play in the backfield sparked an otherwise dismal season. He seemed to have a radar set finding holes in the line. His speed, power and drive making up for the offensive faults. Another player who deserves mention for spurring the team is Bill MacPherson who was chosen at the end position on the KVA. As the season wore on, the team didn't seem to improve until the last game, when they pushed through to victory over Kellogg 13-0. During the season Comstock pushed over 77 points, the defensive unit however allowed the opposition 192. The KVA championship was won by Bangor undefeated. In the playoff for the title they beat Gales- burg-Agusta, also undefeated up to that time. The reserve football team did considerably better, winning most of their games. It is hoped that next year there will be a much more seasoned and winning team. Inexperience and lack of depth was the major factor in the Colts losing season but the Bumps and Bruises taken this year should pay off next season when the colts look forward to a victorious season.
