NO, Hel'e'S T0 The Pilot That Weathered The Storm.u Class Ilistory OI the seven students graduating from Comstock High School in the class of '50, only two started their education in the first grade at Comstock. Clayton and Floyd were the lone first graders back in 1538. Marlys Rehder and Lance Nelson joined the class in the third grade, but Clayton left to attend school at Ibsen, that same year, so the class enrol- lment increased with the addition of Duane Barth, Marjean Czichotzki, Theodore Dickelman, Donna Geswein and Louis Krueger. Duane Buth joined our class in the fifth grade, and Clayton came back the year we were sixth graders. During the next two years some of our former classmates moved away to attend school elsewhere. Duane Barth, Louis Krueger, Clayton, Floyd and Lance finished the eighth grade together at Comstock. The day we were to enter high school finally came. We were sorry to find that Duane and Lois were going to high school elsewhere. However our class of three was enlarged Dy the coming of Myron, Kenneth, Earl, Charles and Orlen from Rustad, and Edwin from Hickson. Mr. Dewall was our advisor this year and the frosh were known as the Ten Comet Bachelors. The fateful day finally came ---- a girl arrived who was to join our class-- it broke up our bachelor-dom, but we are all glad Kitty came to join our group From the mole's standpoint of view she adds Hspicen to our arguments. Were she not here we wouldn't have any arguments. As Seniors our status is six and one. Earl transferred to Fargo last fall. 10 Class Will iiflfiklfiikiirikikiilikikiilki . .' Class Prophecy of 1950 Looking into the Crystal Ball we see a great future for the members of the Senior Class of '50. Pie Anderson is a distinquished member of the N.D.A.C. experimental station faculty. His experiments to produce square eggs has aroused considerable comment from people and hens alike. We expect great things from Pie. Floyd Blilie after extensive study in Mathematics is now back at old Comstock High School teaching Math. Mr. Kenneth Olson has stayed on as his assistant. Kitty Haugen has been working extensively in the Medical Science Field. She has made many note-worthy contributions, since she began to specialize in ailments of the heart. Everyone knows where Clayton Hoyme is now that he has out done Father Dione. Father Dione has five girls as everyone knows, but Clayton has four girls, three boys, and a cooker spaniel. He is widely known for his accomplishments. Edwin Kallander after long research in the field of machines has now achieved long deserved fame for his invention of a machine to force tooth paste back into the tube. Orlen James Valan is now President at Vassar College for Women in the state of New York. In his spare minutes he drives Ernie Johnson's race car. Charles Walker is flying nonstop flights around the world. He now holds all the existing air records and now plans a trip to the moon for Kraft Cheese Company. xxmm++xmvrvx+xwxx+xx 11 2 Y 9 F2 Q Kb Q JE WMQQQQQASJMEM xx 3 4f db x ? 1 X Q Q Juniors x ' 9' 3 3 ii JOAN!! We were seated alphabetically in the large assembly. The Sophomores welcomed us by giving us an initiation party-in October. They gave us caramels which re- ally were delicious-especially after having been soaked in liniment. Several of us were dressed as comic-strip or story book characters. Next year we'll truly enjoy being mean to someone else. We gave our Freshmen return party on December 7. We played games and had hot dogs and pop for lunch. We enjoyed this party more than the one the Sophomores gave us. We elected class officers as follows: President - Patty Asleson Vice-President - Robert Brandt Secretary - Vivian Melby Treasurer - Lowell Olson Student Council Representative - Alice Quiggle Advisor - Mr. Olson 15 Upper Gfades A 3+ eg 1 dy gf' CARY BACKSTRAND JIIALD BRANDT PAUL IONTPLAISIR RAYIOND IILLEII WALLACE NESS JAIIB BHKLLITO CARL TAASAAS , , 1, rrk L K W 1 fi m.,: . There are only fifteen children in our room now. Douglas left our group after Christmas and moved to Fargo. The third grade spent a part of each morning with us having their Arithmetic class and seat work period in our room. Besides our regular class work we had parties at Hallowe'en, Christmas, and Valentine's Day. Each of us took part in the Christmas pageant Hwhen Christmas Comes.H Most of us have hobbies, so to share them with our classmates we organized a Hobby Club. We elected officers each month, so we could all have a chance to conduct meetings and carry on the duties of officers in an organization. We were lucky this year to get new text books for Reading, Arithmetic, and History. Several library books were added to our reading enjoyment. The ones we liked most were old favorites revised into the vocabulary we use, namely, HTom Sawyern and HTreasure Islandn. Many of the Intermediate children made good use of the Clay County Bookmobile which made regular stops in our community. 17 I A .jg - K j 3ff9W7' J mg3 'w1f. .2 33 v 1 A ' 5 X -1 A Ag, f , . We are sixteen girls and only nine boys. This school year seems to be going very fast. Guess it's because we're so busy and there are so many activities. We have had many birthday parties and a party for each holiday. We participated in the Christmas pageant given by the elementary grades and high school chorus for the December P.T.A. meeting. The hot lunches at noon are just as good as ever. Our appetites are getting bigger and we really Ngon for the Hsecondsn. Sometimes the cooks surprise us and send up an afternoon lunch. Needless to say that we enjoy surprises like that! We have received some new reading and health books for our reading table. The Clay County Bookmobile has visited our school and we all enjoyed the books it brought. Once a week, on Tuesdays, we go to church for our religious instruction. Last spring some of the third grade boys built a library and two cute little chairs for our nCozy Cornern. This fall we painted them all red and made cushions for the chairs. We are so thankful to Gerald P., Harvey, Walter and Harold. They are really the good Comstock carpenters. ' We are so proud of our new bleachers and have tried to keep them looking nice. The girls are waiting for spring and HDolly Dayn. But of course we can't bring our dollies until the weather gets warm. We have lots of fun on that day because we play house and pretend we're grown up. Last spring Emmy Lou was judged the best little mother. No one has had to wear the HGossip Gownn in our room yet this year. We don't care to wear it either because it is a horrible thing all black, with ragged fringes along the bottom!!! We have four pupils in the sixth grade, eight in the seventh grade and seven in the eighth grade. We have a Young Citizens Club with the following officers: President, Sybil Gunderson, Vice-President, Paul Montplaisir, Secretary, Orland Bye, and Treasurer, James Nugent. Our club's motto is: WTO Every Man There Openeth A Highway And A Low, And Every Man Decideth The Way His Soul Shall Go.H 19 Some of our projects include: giving programs on the different holidays throughout the year, taking care of our plants, arranging our bulletin boards and room decorations, sponsoring the showing of films, contributions to the Christmas seal drive, the Junior Red Cross, March of Dimes, Crippled Children's Fund and Care. We have spelling-teams with Sidney Eggum, captain of the Crows, and James Nugent, captain of the Hawks. This year we are so happy having received a number of new text books. We have new Math, English and Spelling books in all three grades, and new Social Studies Books in the seventh and eighth grades. z o I i iyTffNYS Q F2 Ci Ss Q db 9 mzfwzggrnes 79 If R' x 6 'X Q BASKETBALL HIGHLIGHTS OF '49 so Iklklkii!III'IIllilkfklklklkllliillillillflfllliklkikikilrlkilliilirllilliii As this annual goes to press the 49-50 basketball season is swiftly draw ing to a close. Looking back over the season thus far we find that our win loss record is not as good as many previous seasons. However, though our boys were occasionally outscored they were never outiought. The opposition was strong this year, but none of our opponents left the floor without realizing they had been in a Dall game. We are now entered in the strong Minn-Dak conference which has such teams as Oak Grove, Casselton, Dilworth and M.S.T.C. This added on a few extra teams and also gives the team something to work for during the season A record of the seasons games is as follows. Comstock Qjlv xl -Q 5. -, x -. We had our first party at Johnson's Roller Rink in October while the weather was still nice. Some of us were just beginners but soon learned how to skate with only a few spills. We are also looking forward to another Spring Field Day which will be held at Moorhead. Many of us attended last year and had a great time. Mixed Chorus Z5 Mixed Chorus iiiiiiiiiiiitiiiiiii In mixed chorus this year the boys have music every Tuesday and Thursday. The girls have music Monday and Wednesday and on Friday we have mixed chorus. Mrs. Anderson is our music teacher again this year. Student Council iiiiiiiiiiitiiiiiiik 4 This year we are continuing with our weekly patrol, to keep order during the noon hour. The Student Council gave a Christmas program this year for the high school. Songs were sung, and a few readings were read by the Student Council members. Members elected this year for the Student Council are as follows: Pearl Walker, Catherine Haugen, Charles Walker, Patty Asleson, Darlene Ness, and Roger Livdahl. Debu te iiiiiiitikiiiiiikiii This year for the first time six students of CHS took part in debate. We entered the debate tournament at Concordia College.
