HISTORY OF BLUE CITY Stretching over 54 acres, Compton High SchooI,was occupied on 601 So Acacia since 1925 but was destroyed by earthquake on March 10. 1933 and reconstructed in 1935. At that time the Compton Union High School District included Enterprise, Roosevelt. Willowbrook. Lynwood, and Clearwater High. After completing the tenth grade from one of the five schools mentioned, all students went to Compton Junior College. After grade twelve, students received a high school diploma but remained in the-same school for post-secondary training. The eleventh and twelfth grades had separate teamslfrom the college teams. The college teams were called The Tartars and the high school teams were called The Baby Tartars later shortened to Tarbabes , our present mascot. These changes necessitated the need for Compton Junior College to move to it's present location in 1956 Lynwood and Clearwater both moved out of our district. Today, Compton High is the largest of all 48 schools in the Compton Unified School District. With over 2,800 students, Compton High in 1979 has made history that all posterity will look in admiration. Compton High School fought diligently in 1979 to bring home the California Interscholastic Federation CC.l.F.J Coastal Conference Championship This great feat has not been accomplished since 1950. 1979 was the year that a Operation: New Image was put into effect.
