Commander F.R. Schuler EXECUTIVE IIFFIBER l Commander Schuler graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in I947 and in his early career served as a division officer aboard the aircraft carrier BOXER and in vari- ous billets on several small vessels. He served on the staff of the Commander in Chief Naval Forces CEastern Atlantic and Mediteraneanj in London .on two occasions. One of these tours included duty with the British Admiralty. During the Korean War he served as CIC Officer on board the USS MT. MC KINLEY CAIGC-75 the Amphibious Force flagship. Other sea duty includes Operations Officer aboard the destroyer MONSSEN and as Executive Officer aboard the destroyers CAPERTON, ROAN, and Destroyed Escort RIZZI. In early I96O he was appointed as Assistant U.S. Naval At- tache in Canberra, Australia. Prior to reporting aboard the USS COMPASS ISLAND he was assigned to the Defense Intelligence -Agency in the Pentagon. Commander Schuler and his wife, Inger, have been married since I95'I.

Captain W.D. Coyne Captain Coyne, a 1939 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, served aboard the U.S.S. NEW JERSEY in the Gunnery Department during most of World War Il. After the war he was employed as an engineer in the oil industry until his return to active duty' in l950. During the Korean Conflict he served as Gunnery Officer onthe U.S.S. WOR- CESTER, From l953 until T956 he received postgraduate training in ordance engineer- ing at the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School and at the Massachusetts lnstitute of Tech- nology. ln l956 he was assigned duty as Surface Operations Officer on the staff of Commander Carrier Division Seven. After two years in various attack carriers in the Pacific, he was ordered to the Bureau of Ordance, later called the Bureau of Naval Weapons, where he served in the Research and Development Division. ln 1962 he ioined the Polaris Program and reported to the office of the Special Proiects Technical Representative at the Sperry Gyroscope Company, Syosset, New York. Captain Coyne and his wife, Vinette, are the parents of two teen-age daughters, Alicerand Connie. CUMMANDING UFFICER
